  1. So you're saying that a person who is studying Electrical Engineering while in ROTC is "on a level playing field from the start" with a person who is trying to get a BA in Art History?? I humbly disagree. The time required for different degrees is going to determine how much time is available for ROTC, and I think we can all agree that time spent in the det is a huge factor in DG/commander's rank/etc, not to mention having more free time to work on improving fitness and a higher GPA as well due to the easier coursework, both of which factor into those rankings. What other DGs would you do without? WIC? UPT? FTU?
  2. I can't believe morons like that get elected. We need to ouster all of these clowns. Reminds me of an article I read recently...
  3. haha...heard that one more than once from T-1 FAIPs at Laughlin...as they were using a tractor to pull the jet back on the prepared surface.
  4. Let's start an official contest to see who can get ticketed (YGBSM, btw) for the greatest number of violations at once?? Case of beer to the winner!
  5. Ahh yes, the old NK sabre rattle. They wouldn't stand a chance. As the saying goes, "Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics". They might make a hell of a push initially (sts) but their fuel and food would run out quickly. Unless of course China sided with them again.
  6. The thing is, twenty years ago you got a "club card" which was run by the local club, billed like a mom-n-pop store, and didn't go on your credit report. You put everything on your card, and you paid it every month. No hassle, no interest, no problems. Agreed that the lack of girls, happy hour, and live music have all contributed greatly to the death of the clubs. Douchebag "leadership" doesn't help either. Glad to see they still have cheap long island iced teas at the Auger Inn at least.
  7. I believe the LT-Mobile thread is the one you were looking for.
  8. My questions is whether the Space and Information Aggressors ( ) have computers and a water cooler painted in the aggressor paint scheme??? Photoshop anyone...?
  9. 2! That google search is some funny shit.
  10. Umm...unless yours are completely different from every other set I have seen, there should be a leather tab on the underside of the board. It is stictched along the outside edge and there is a single snap on the inside end of it. Unsnap it, slide it under the two retaining loops sewn onto the shoulder of your mess dress, then snap it back down. Can't quote 36-2902 chapter-and-verse (thankfully) but IIRC the outer edge of the board should be flush with the shoulder seam. Hope that answers your question. Bravo on using the search function, hence the ancient thread revival. SH.
  11. That probably means "retro bush" as well! NFW.
  12. This is why I love BaseOps...dude has a question, and it's answered a day later by people who are actually flying the jet and at that location. That sort of access is awesome. On a side note...either of you guys (Evil, TBone) flying Thursday night? I'll be tanking Tyndall -15s in Florida Alpha around 1130Z.
  13. Tell ya what...in the interest of paying it forward...I have a small supply of 42R flight suits that are either new and too short (due to the great quality control from the manufacturer) or are the old "pocket pool" style that was phased out. I would be willing to part with them for a nominal donation for my time and effort (read: beer and/or bottle of booze). I realize they aren't the size requested so may not help you out Saz43, but perhaps someone else might need them. They're taking up my closet space and I can't bring myself to just throw them away. PM me if interested. For the record, I wore a flight suit in ROTC...because I could. Anything that got me out of blues or BDUs (and thus being inspected) was A-OK in my book. I do however echo some of the other comments...it IS just a flight suit. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. When I was in nav school I had a pilot-select friend of mine (who was still at my old Det) tell me something along the lines of "ah well...that's because you're just a nav". As fate would have it, he med DQ'd before ever even sitting in an Air Force jet. Karma can be a bitch, so don't get too carried away with the ego before you've done anything.
  14. I think you have a good plan together. It could take over 6 months to get your AMS dates (worst case) so I really would sit quietly and learn your new civilian job until that happens. I would try to give them at least 30 days notice once you have dates, if that is possible. Giving them a copy of your orders immediately would also be best, although that is a long shot given the speed of the ANG orders system.
  15. Take the job. Drop military leave paperwork on them when your AMS dates come through. You are protected under the law. A lot can happen between now and then so don't burn any bridges (God forbid...med DQ, unit closes, etc).
  16. SHACK. I've been doing the 9-5 thing for 3 years now and I concur with everything you said. If you try to have a legitimate civilian career (read: promotions, responsibility, etc) you will either kill yourself working 70-80 hours per week between both places and never see your family because you are still flying 1-2 nights per week and on weekends, or you will min-run the guard unit which will tank your career there. Pick your poison. Especially for the new guys, min-running really isn't an option. As evidenced by the FedEx crash earlier this week, this flying business is the real deal. Trying to get by with only 1-2 sorties per month (even if the unit would put up with that level of participation) just isn't a good idea. My advice to anyone considering a civilian job while being on flying status would be to be as upfront as possible with the employer about the time required. If not, someone is going to get pissed and it won't work out for the long haul. Even then, it will still be a challenge IMHO.
  17. Based on recent experience in my unit, I would say the bums do NOT have a better shot at getting hired. Three of our last four hires have had civilian jobs - and only one of those was an airline guy. I would say that someone applying from outside the unit has ZERO chance of getting hired, unless there is some political trickery going on behind the scenes. The jobs are typically posted to give preferential hiring to current technicians, current in-state part timers, current ANG members, then anyone. So unless no one in the unit applies, there is almost no chance they will hire from outside.
  18. Everyone I know was working that day.
  19. Took these this morning! Note the shocker in #2. Priceless.
  20. STS. You don't need an OWC for that I'm guessing. Or maybe that's what really goes on at those meetings...
  21. 1. Is the "OSC" similar to the OWC?? Please tell me that they didn't actually change the name. I can't imagine a male spouse actually going. Although it would be a great place to meet chicks! 2. I have never heard of this. Your housing allowance will of course be indexed to the local zip code, but haven't heard of additional pay. 3. Since an ANG base has a much smaller personnel footprint (typically - can't speak for Pease specifically) the local community may or may not even realize there is a military installation there. If anything, I'd say that's a good thing, as there aren't 10,000 junior enlisted knuckleheads pissing off the locals all the time. Most ANG bases employ ~1000-1500 people, including weekenders. 4. Don't know how they will pair up the AD units...whether they will "own" a few jets that they will then deploy with 200 days a year (like every other AD base) or be paired with the host ANG unit, who deploys maybe 120 days every 18 months (tanker unit). Of that time, most of the pilots will only be gone 30-45 days.
  22. That is the problem! There are A FEW dishonest military members. 99% of the guys are just trying to get what is owed to them, but in an effort to catch the 1%, everyone must suffer. (i.e. the standard USAF "one person shits the bed and we all have to wear diapers" response.)
