True. There are also several ANG E-model units in various stages of conversion, so that has taken quite a number of airplanes out of circulation for the time being.

This is an essential piece of UPT gear! Especially if you go to Laughlin.
-
If they put AD tankers at Anderson, that cut the ANG out of the picture...thus killing one of the last "good deals" for ANG tanker guys. Guess we'll have to get busy inventing new good deals...

One more thing to add...I know plenty of people who keep "civilian" logbooks for their Air Force flying, and they use the FAA method for computing flight time. Cumbersome, but it works. I have also met several people who haven't kept a civilian logbook until applying for an airline job, then just added .2 or .3 to every AF sortie from their flight records while creating a civvie logbook, with the theory being that if they were questioned they could just say it was taxi time.
-
The main difference is the AF only logs from brake release to landing+5 minutes, versus civilian side where you log 'hobbs' time.

Don't worry...the Air Force isn't "funny" about mis-using computers at all. They NEVER send anyone to federal pound me in the ass prison for surfing porn on government computers. It's never happened. Probably never will.

I'm with you! I say we strip them down, then make them form a "human pyramid" while we take pictures. After that, we'll intimidate them with a barking dog on a leash. Sound good? I certainly hope our troops are "kicking it up a notch" in response to this. My neighbor's son just got back from a year over there and from his viewpoint it was pretty much a turkey shoot, as the dumb f_ckers actually want to die [for allah and those 72 virgins...which I hope are all 80 year old former nuns, BTW]. Too bad there's a never-ending supply of as$holes over there.

I am still amazed that this happened. That sort of thing goes (went?) on all the time at UPT, and for the AF to all of a sudden get a spine about it really is hypocritical. I can't imagine being one of the 13 people dragged down by this...one day you're operating at UPT and it's status-quo. The next day, you're out on the street. Don't mean to stir up a hornet's nest about this, as it's been discussed at length before, but it just goes to prove my (mostly plagerized) rules of AF life: 1. Life isn't fair 2. Timing is everything 3. There is no justice

IIRC, it's about 10 hours from Seattle to Japan. Of course, if you're going in a herk it'll take 2 weeks at 210 KIAS! :D The few times I've flown that way commerical, it was a non-stop Seattle-Osaka....so no Hawaii. Out of curiosity, have you looked at a globe lately?! As for your jet lag...as a general rule, it's easier to go west than east (making your day longer vs. shorter). [ 01. It's not a technicality...you ARE single. End of story. Until you have a marriage license in hand the USAF won't give you any special consideration. Until then, it's "the needs of the Air Force" concerning living off base. Apply for it. Hope for the best. Take what comes your way.

I would argue the exact opposite. As a part-timer in the ANG your only duty is flying. That's it. Show up, brief, fly, go home. Once you make Maj or Lt Col you might get some additional duties (unless you are a guard bum...volunteering for odd jobs in an attempt to earn extra cash) but if you're a true part-timer...all you do is fly! PilotKD and I discussed this before. At least in the tanker world, AD guys fly 1-2 times PER MONTH (when home) vs. an ANG guy who flies 1-2 times PER WEEK. You do the math. I would say that it's the same for many fighter units as well. Most of my ANG fighter bros fly at least 2-3 times per week. Don't know what AD flies, but I suspect it's not that often. Lastly, I submit that most new ANG aircraft commanders (in the tanker world at least) are lightyears ahead of their AD counterparts. Why? AD upgrades at 800 hours total time. ANG upgrades at roughly 1000 hours pri/sec KC-135 time. That's 2-3x more experience. It can be irritating as hell if you are trying to upgrade quickly, but it leads to a more safe and experienced crew force.

I just assumed that the Gucci KC-10 union contract really was that good! All kidding aside...caught the sarcasm on the re-read. Guess I'm just a little slow tonight!

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! I've seen PLENTY of F-15C B-course studs attempt to A/R...so let's not get too carried away BeerMan! As for autopilot off...do KC-10s not practice this?! Most of our heavy receivers require autopilot-off A/R for their checkrides, so we do it (sts) frequently. Under normal circumstances, unless we are having an autopilot or VG problem, the autopilot stays on.

I am stunned. The fighter guys get Dos Gringos. We tanker guys get this ass clown?! WTF!

Hope this hasn't been posted yet...best out-of-office reply ever:

Agreed...but at the end of the day, you're making close to $50/hr to do what a civilian secretary gets $8/hr to do. Plus you've got good medical benefits and a retirement. Gotta love government service.

For the record, the wheel caps are still available. In fact, all field grade officers are "required" to own one. While I should probably not admit this in public, I actually own one (was forced to by previous CC...long story)...it is actually pretty hilarious to wear the thing around and watch the reaction of people.

WTF!?! Do a bunch of 3 and 4 stars just get together in their super-secret meeting room to play dress up and have tea and f_cking crumpets all afternoon? That uniform has got to be the worst looking things I've ever seen. Hopefully the phase-out date for the current one will be after I retire. And we thought McPeak had left the AF....

The tough part is trying to figure out who the douchebags are. Apparently, local commanders ranked everyone (thus pointing out the douchebags, I hope) but then, as usual, HHQ didn't seem to listen to their recommendations. WTF!? Again...typical. I have battled this syndrome repeatedly at AMS. The staff will highlight someone who should NOT become an Officer...the paper trail is squared away...but the staff gets overruled. Thus, the douchebag gets commissioned and the Capts/Majs that are doing their best to weed out the a-holes get nice emails from the rest of the class saying "How did you guys let this happen?!" Just a reminder that while the AF is a great career, we are serving at the convenience of Big Blue....and it's a one-way contract. We sign an ADSC. They can ditch us at any time. It sucks, but it's the price of admission. Lastly...a reminder on the 3 truisms of the Air Force: 1. Life isn't fair 2. Timing is everything 3. There is no justice

I just did a search for the supermax prison this clown is going to...and I thought the US prison system was going soft (sts) on criminals:

ANG Pay System Explained (AFTP, UTA, Title 10/32)
Bergman replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
For each Active Duty day you work, you will be paid 1/30th of the full-time salary, to include flight pay, BAS, BAH (only Type II if the orders are less than 30 days consecutive). Your logic of "only working 20 days a month" might be true - kind of like the old joke "How many people work in the Pentagon? About half" - but AD is actually PAYING you for 30 days of work...it's just at the convenience of your commander that you don't work all 30 of them. The problem is that you don't have unlimited paydays in the ANG. 48 drill periods, 48 FTPs, and 15 active duty days a year (min). Anything beyond that is gravy, and somewhat hard to come by these days due to ANG budget cuts. Airlift units are doing well, but seems like everyone else is feeling the pinch. -
I thought many of the posts could be framed and placed in the Not Being a SNAP thread. I'm just a herb, but even I know there comes a time when you need to firewall the throttle, sack up, and see what you (and your airplane) can do.

I'm with you on that as well. The Cozy Mark IV is my leading choice in that arena. I like the idea of having 4 (3 with bags) people, engine behind you, and a very safe design. Of course, no sport aerobatics in that one. So, when the time comes, my decision will most likely be either RV or Cozy. Gotta have a dream! Well get after it! That fat retirement check has "Pitts" written all over it. :D
