  1. Women banned from water slide after ['Intimate'] 'injuries' https://www.thelocal....0803-44149.html A German water park has banned women from a high-speed slide - claiming whooshing water was causing “intimate injuries”. The park's manager told The Local the X-treme Faser slide was made men-only after several women complained of being hurt by water as they flung themselves down the slide, where people can reach speeds of 72 kmh. Marcus Maier said six women had reported injuries to the genital area last year, and some of them had to be taken to hospital. No men have reported genital injuries, he said. "These injuries are caused by the nature of the female anatomy," Maier told The Local. But the Professional Association of Gynaecologists was sceptical. A spokeswoman said there was no medical reason why women shouldn't use such a slide - unless they were pregnant. She said she had never heard of women suffering waterslide-related vaginal injury. Maier said few women have complained about the men-only policy. "We are trying to do right by women; we don't want to discriminate against them," said the manager of Galaxy Rutschenparadies, which is part of the Therme Erding sauna complex near Munich. Asked if the park had considered reworking the slide, Maier said it had never been seriously considered. The slide was new, he said, and reckoned it had cost up to €100,000 to build. "We have some slides you can't go down unless you weigh 50 kilos - you could argue that's just as discriminating,” he said. Still, there appears to be a glimmer of hope for female water slide enthusiasts: The park is working on building a protective suit for women to use on the slide. "Like for ice hockey," said Maier. ________ FM
  2. Yeah, and by "children" we are talking about a three year-old and a six year-old. I am holding off on my Obama comment for now (remember Fort Hood), just praying for the families... FM

  5. If one lays aside the argument concerning Islam's aims on the West, there is a scale issue between Islam and "other" religious when it comes to violence and getting one's point across. This site, https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/...clearly has a spin on things, but tallies the daily violence succinctly. It posts every two or three days worth of incidents. Today's snapshot - six attacks in three days. If I check the site three days hence, there will be more incidents summarized (usually two or three each day). Without using the "Wayback Machine," please indicate where on Earth we can go to make ANY comparison - at all to the scale of violence demonstrated. FM
  6. Yes, more to this story than meets the eye... FM
  7. From, an on-ice offical's (Referee) viewpoint: While I am too old (and too awful) to skate at the NHL level (the "Show" as we call it), they still let me do college level games. We still see this stuff, but both the NCAA and NHL have had an emphasis on penalizing hits to the head, the last few years. IMHO, there's no reason to allow hits like this one. This is an excellent video hosted by Brendan Shanahan. Aside from the rule violations, it is clear the player has a history of hits to the head. A shame the on-ice official didn't have a better look at it. FM

  12. You can add that to yesterday's excitement: "2012.03.14 (Helmand, Afghanistan) - Three members of a family are among eight minibus riders obliterated by a Sunni bomb." That's eight plus thirteen. It never stops. And, I guess it's beside the point, isn't it? FM
  13. I also coached for about fifteen years, and the expectations of the parents are interesting. Depending on the skill level, the majority of parents usually act properly and expect "Johnny" to be competitive and have fun. Then the minority show up, and at the travel level these folks labor under the illusion that their kid is going to "The Show" (NHL). I was always gently reminding them that "Johnny has a 0.0069 percent chance of making it there - and yet, they still persist. Of course, the best demonstration of sportsmanship (in front of the kids) comes when the parents fight each other. Keep supporting your sister, women's hockey continues to grow at the amateur level. Yeah, that guy was extra special, and often used as an example of bad behavior. Parents living vicariously through their children - sheesh. Sadly also, the parents don't know the rules, and likely don't know what's really going on, on the ice. But they guess anyway, and that sends the whole thing tits-up. Despite all of this bad news, there are of course, many very rewarding experiences for the kids (and parents) to be had at the local rink. FM
  14. One of the things I do now, is referee (officiate) hockey (kids up to the college level). The ill mentality of many hockey parents would amaze many. No matter how many things are done to mitigate the douches out there, more crop up every season, and it never stops. FM

  16. Sad and frustrating, I think Ob is tripping on his d*ck again. To sum the whole thing up: Obama to Karzai: "Sorry about that." Karzai: "Thanks, but your personnel should be tried for this crime." Muslims: Kill Americans repeatedly over the issue. Obama: "I think my apology worked pretty well, don't you?" Apologies for the paraphrasing. FM

  21. Sandra Bullock smuggles sausage for Christmas Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has admitted to smuggling delectable sausage from Germany into the United States for Christmastime. https://www.thelocal....1221-39643.html My favorite quote: "...she declined to explain how she smuggles the sausage – whether through the mail on her person." Perhaps another way could be deduced? I can't tell if the Germans are amused by this or offended... FM
