  1. I'll give credit to the finance folks at my base after my recent PCS. An Airman sat me down in their office and walked me through PiPS (step-by-step) for what ended up being a relatively painless and intuitive process that I certainly could have figured out on my own with minimal frustration. I had to use PiPS one other time for an extended TDY and was relatively happy with the process. This begs the question... why the ###### do we use DTS?! After 7 years and over 900 TDY days in AMC I never figured that shit out.
  2. The obvious knee-jerk reaction to this accident should be immediate implementation of additional stabilized approach criteria and the banning of all visual approaches by all MAF aircraft.
  3. The very beginning of the recording is tower clearing them to land on 28L. They subsequently clear Skywest to land, but right after that you hear a yell in the background about an accident as they are trying to send the Skywest flight around. As for what the Asiana pilot is saying, I have no clue.
  4. Bored on a Saturday afternoon... SFO Tower Audio (pretty slow to load) Sounds like things were normal/normal until it hit the ground. No mention of an emergency and other aircraft being cleared to land.
  5. Looks eerily like the BA 777 crash at Heathrow in 2008. It looks like they barely made the pavement. Strictly an observation.
  6. I'll go ahead and nominate the above as the greatest picture to ever grace this forum... nay, the internet in its entirety.
  7. Strategic power projection is not important when you have prize-winning Clydesdales with tight itineraries. Those show horses aren't going to fly themselves around the world.
  8. Just the tip of the ice berg, my friend.
  9. His name is Erin. Apparently child abuse runs in the family.
  10. No-fly day next Friday at a certain FTU for SAPR activities of some sort. Anybody else?
  11. Altus is saved because God has a warped sense of humor.
  12. Looks like Altus got the FTU. https://blog.newsok.com/politics/2013/05/22/altus-air-force-base-loses-bid-to-be-main-site-for-new-tankers/
  13. However much we want to fault her for these comments, I truly believe this is the way we are going as a force. "Why be good at (fill in the blank) when we can do it with modern technology?" For example, CBT's have proven to be the perfect cure to all of the woe's in the modern military.
  14. Ouch. Looks like there was more than just grass in that aimpoint.
  15. Correction... WE are so ######ed! One person shits his pants, blah blah blah. Prepare for more CBTs/Wingman Days/Flying Down Days etc.
  16. Even if the opportunity to bail out presented itself, I'd still ride it in. My landings are better than my PLFs.
  17. Name and pictures all over FB. Unfortunate.
  18. My condolences to the families of the crew. Is anyone else bothered by the fact that Facebook is where we learn of such a loss?
  19. Not sure what you're getting at. I saw a lot of fighting and winning going on in those pics.
  20. I've got yet another glowing report on NBOKC. I just closed today on a VA purchase with Dave Devine. There's really not much to add to what has been said above. It was an absolutely outstanding experience from the very beginning. Dave was always there to answer the phone or e-mail me back when I had questions - always within 24 hours. Our realtor even commented on how NBOKC was the best lender she's worked with in years. I got 3.25% with zero due at closing thanks to credit provided by the lender in conjunction with seller-paid closing costs. I'll end up getting a $1000 check for the return on the earnest money put on the home and the mortgage. Dave was very up front about NBOKC selling the loan to another bank (Wells Fargo, Citi, etc) within the next month. I expect it to be transparent on my end... as long as I can auto-draft from USAA. Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions about the process. I'm still amazed I bought a home from 1200 miles away with only a string of e-mails and some overnighted documents.
  21. I'll second Gleim. I've used them since 2004 and never had an issue. Yeah, it's not a lifetime subscription like American Flyers, but the material is straight forward and serves as a good review every two years. Their ACR service makes issuance of the renewed certificate a breeze.
  22. "...the base earned very low marks for standards during its 2011 unit compliance inspection, focusing on examples such as rolled-up sleeves, hands in pockets and walking while using a cellphone 'showed an apparent lack of regard for Air Force standards'" Ahhh, 2011... the good old days when we could afford to worry about sleeves and pockets.
