What I am looking at is a AR-15 with a buttstock and barrel less than 16 inches. An AR-15 pistol is built on a lower reciever marked from the factory for use as a pistol only (no stock, just a bare buffer tube). I have been doing some homework on this, and basically want one "just becuase I can" There is a lot more paperwork involved with a SBR though: File a ATF Form 1 Complete a FBI Fingerprint file with a local le agency $200 tax stamp check ATF citizenship verification form It's a little more upfront, but if you are into the hobby...it can be worth your time.

A question for the crowd. I know this thread has gotten some good milage. I was wondering if there were any baseops.net fans who have taken the plunge and filed the paperwork for a short barreled rifle or shotgun? I am going to go get my stripped AR-15 lower reciever engraved with the proper markings this weekend. I think I might toss some updates on the board and show some folks the wonderful world of NFA (national firearms act of 1934) firearms. -Pitt

Good pick, the first generation had some issues with the finish and rust but I had a LRS/CC who was a shooting buddy. He let me do some target work with his tactical model, very accurate and smooth trigger. What else could you want? As for me, I still shoot my FN Hi-Power in .40 but I am thinking of a S&W M&P. But I just spent nearly $800 on a car payment and taking my shop out to lunch. I might update this thread later, i am working on getting a short barreled AR-15 with a sound surpressor. If all goes smoothly, I will do a write up on how to do it.

I have mixed opinions on the IDPA/USPSA/IPSC type shooting. On one hand its great to change things up instead of standing still punching paper... I disagree with the minor vs. major power factors in USPSA. 9mm shooters are basically put at a deficit against folks shooting .40 and .45. Also, USPSA is a little too PC.........listen to how they speak hostages are "No shoot targets"

Am I trolling? Yes Is my point still valid? Yes I am just wondering with the way the AF loves public executions why hasn't big blue set its sights on this guy?

I'd just like to know if we would be so vigorously defending the poster of this information if instead it wasn't our lovable O-5 who is a "cool dude" and a "good bro" but say a dedicated crew chief with 4 or 5 stripes on his sleeve. Just a thought...

My bro who is a PA just got off the phone with me and handled all the on-slaught from local & national media on this one, aparently a large portion of the base was out for the rehersal watching the show. Thoughts and prayers are with the family. Just a little food for thought, as much as some in the military demonize the media. I have to give credit where credit is due. When someone goes down from a flagship act, the press hasn't automatically named names. (There has been far too much of it this summer) They could if they wanted to, since these units are usually very well publicized with in-depth bios and numbered jet...but I've noticed so far this year that the press hasn't been so cold as release the names of the deceased without the blessing from PA. But back to the important point, cheers to our friends from the north

Buck, Agreed, I'd pull the photo of the mother. The message still comes across w/o that pic. Couldn't they have shot the "missing-man" fly-by instead?

Simple question here. You guys criticize PA for posting photos of a grieving family at the funeral of a fallen viper pilot... But I scroll down this forum under "Attention grabbing photos of sacrificed needed" I see the picture of a wife/mother clutching a folded flag with a newborn child. Or the wife of a fallen marine spending one last night with her husband in a funeral home. Not looking to stir shit but I am just wondering why there is outrage for one photo and not the other?
