Anyone know if this is still in use and, if so, what the volunteer status is? How would I go about volunteering?

Has anyone done the ATP at FSI in Atlanta? How thorough was the oral portion (sts)? Any gotchas with the ATP or type rating check? It's been quite a while since I've read the FAR/AIM or anything civilian flying related.

The best advice I can give you is to read each airframe's assignment page on AFPC Secure. That will give you an idea of what is going on with each airframe. I love the multi-role aspect of the Viper...especially the block 50. Wouldn't trade it for anything!

I'll also put my vote in for Logbook Pro. Well worth the $69 or whatever is costs now. I've been using it for about 5 years and never had an issue. Obviously, as with any electronic logbook, you should back it up with a written log especially since many civilian carriers still like to see your paper logbook at interviews.

Minimum requirements are as follows: • Airlift, Tanker, or C2ISR (E-3, E-4, E-8, KC-135) Major Weapon System (MWS) Aircraft Commander • No fighter • 2000 total hours • 3 years Time on Station (TOS or DEROS) by 1 Oct 09 (NO EXCEPTIONS) • Professional Military Education (PME) completed (any method), appropriate for rank and time in grade • MWS/OSA Instructor/Evaluator experience 1b. 89th Airlift Wing highly desires in addition to above requirements: • 2500 total hours (not including other time) • 250 MWS/OSA Instructor Pilot hours • MWS/OSA Evaluator Pilot experience • Recent worldwide flight experience • Minimal number of qualification level 3 (or equivalent) flight evaluations and... 3. SCREENING • 1st Phase, AFPC. All packages are screened for AFPC release from 10-16 Dec 2008. Resource managers from the applicant’s weapon systems will screen applicants for suitability and determine releaseability for 89 AW duty. • If you are not currently flying in your MWS (i.e., on staff, flying as a UFT instructor in AETC, or flying in OSA) you should have a minimum of two operational MWS tours (equivalent to 6 yrs in an MWS). • If you are flying in an MWS you will be released based on your qualifications and manning requirements in the system. • Officers should expect return to a MWS rated requirement (could be PME or staff) after an assignment to the 89 AW.

My entire B-course class is wearing flight boots, large badges and ribbons, and wheel caps if we have one. It's 110 degrees in Phoenix right now so the cardigan is out of the question..

Has anyone seen or heard of any FAP assignments dropping at Luke lately? Are they included in the class drop or is it something you have to request? Are Homestead, Ft Worth, McEntire, and Burlington the only options for Viper drivers?

True story. Apparently he misunderstood the "check-in inverted" thing and performed a split-s and over sped the plane while checking in. The SQ/CC sent his paperwork to the Wing King for CRB and removal from training. Still however!

Sorry to hijack this thread but I didn't feel like starting up a new thread for one question. Anyone know when the 61st is supposed to start flying block 42s? I'm heading there next month for FTU and was told that the current class is the last to fly the block 25s. Just wondering if anyone else had heard the same or knows first hand. F-16.net says that they will start getting the 63rd block 42s sometime toward the end of the year.

It wasn't long ago that a Kalitta 747 lost an engine (nacelle and all) into Lake Michigan. I've had buddies that have worked for Kalitta in the past. Definitely a shady operation.

I had the pleasure of flying with the IP on several occasions when I was with the 50th. He was my mentor and a friend. He will be missed. God bless the families of both involved and Godspeed brothers. RIP!

I just got back and there was about 4 feet of snow. It was beginning to melt during the day which made for a very wet week. My $.02, definitely bring good socks (Smart Wool or something that wicks away sweat), and a headlamp. I took the Gore-tex but really only wore the pants. You don't really need the jacket unless it's raining. A good set of moisture wicking thermals were nice too since you're sweating your ass off during the day snowshoeing up and down the mountains. The issue thermals blow. I took my Hot Chillys thermals and they worked great. I would also recommend a good Leatherman.
