Louisville, Kentucky - The Gult House - stay away from this hotel. Not only is it over the limit, it's not worth it. Maybe it was bad timing but the hotel was mobbed. It took 10 minutes to get an elevator everytime. You couldn't get food in the hotel unless you were willing to wait 1 plus hours. The FBO at the airport does not provide transport to and from the hotel. You're on your own or the ANG can help you out if you beg. Best bet in the future is to let the Army users know ahead of time or through current ops that they need to provide transportation. The Army users led me to believe if they knew ahead of time, they would have squared us away. The Seelbach Hilton PH (502)585-3200 had pretty good rooms. Sort of tough to find as the streets are labeled "st" but are called "avenue". Hotel is right across the street from a downtown area called "4th Avenue District" or something like that. This is an area about a block long that is open to foot traffic only and is filled with bars and restaurants. Pretty much something for everyone. Get there early, before 2000 to avoid the cover charges, seems like all the separate bars charge a $5 cover as the night goes on.

~The ANG unit at SDF is very helpful, as long as you give them a heads that you're coming (like with any other unit). Stay away from the Executive Hotel. This place saw it's heyday about 30 years ago. It has since turned into a poor man's luxury hotel, and I'm using the word luxury loosely. The rooms are old and dumpy. The mattresses looked like they should have been replaced years ago. The furniture is pretty much the same story. This hotel needs a MASSIVE make-over, or better yet, just level the place! I felt like I was living in the 70's. The only nice thing about this place is the bar downstairs, next to the restaurant. Otherwise, there's lots to do in Louisville. You've got the fair every August, and you've got a downtown scene. If you find yourself at Ft. Campbell, Ky. stay away from the Lodge Sports bar in Clarksville,TN.If you are there to watch football or any other sports and you are there past 9:00 P.M. they will hassle you for a cover charge. This place is a rip-off! The 'security staff' was drinking with us until a cover was due and then started hassling everyone for a cover. This bar is at the mall at exit 4 on the Tennessee side. Stay away!!!

Louisville, KY - The Galt House is a historic hotel on the waterfront that usually offers top notch service. It's possible that the previous poster was there during Thunder Over Louisville through the Kentucky Derby. During this three week party most of the decent hotels are booked (all are booked for the actual Thunder, Oaks and Derby dates). Other great places to stay include the Hyatt, Hilton (Seelbach) and the Marriot Downtown (brand new). All three are within a reasonable walking distance to "Fourth Street Live" ( www.4thstlive.com ) which is mentioned earlier. This area includes "Hard Rock Cafe," "Howl at the Moon," "Fridays," "Sulley's" among many other bars and restaurants. However, if you really want a taste of Louisville you can't miss our original bar and restaurant district located on the Bardstown Road/Baxter Avenue strip. A great starting place is what I like to call the Irish Block. All within a block or two are "O'Shea's," "Molly Malone's," "Flannigan's" and "Wick's Pizza" (not Irish but great bar with fantastic Pizza!) There is a whole bunch to do in Louisville so don't just sit in your room! At least get out and eat someplace new...Louisville is known for it's many great original restaurants. If you're visiting Louisville and find yourself at "Outback Steakhouse" you should be shot! Call the Ops desk at the KY ANG for more detailed info.
