Guest Rainman A-10 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 As mentioned, the Hog puts on a pretty cool bat-turn and in a 9K setup with the A-10 defensive this ends up giving the appearance of a high-aspect merge! In the F-15E, the vertical was the best answer -- zoom up several thousand feet while the defender was "circling the Hogs" and point the nose down for slashing attacks. There was really no way to actually get to and maintain the control zone. Circle the Hogs is nothing more than delaying the inevitable. Horrible technique IMHBAO. Find a way to point at the enemy instead of just hoping he runs out of gas or loses interest. No one likes to see a jet with 480 flares (one every three seconds for 24 minutes) point at him or her. It also feels a lot better taking the offensive than lining up like the girls at the Bunny Ranch when a smelly trucker walks in, all of them hoping they aren't the next one picked to get banged...which is all circling the Hogs really does as Hacker so eloquently stated. Sure, they're probably not going to come in and turn with you but they are eventually going to shoot you while you pose no threat to them. Not a good technique. Hogs can use the vertical; most guys just don't know how to do it. Nothing surprises an opponent more than watching an A-10 lead turn in the vertical. You can almost see the look of shock on the guy's face when he realizes what is happening. "WTFO?! Hang on a second…he's not supposed to be doing that! WTFO?!" It doesn't last long but it often lasts long enough. Lots of angles quickly and get on your back while the other guy is thinking about what to do next. The A-10 really turns inside it's own ass when it is slow and inverted (which, unfortunately, is an extremely uncomfortable place for most Hog guys)...total lift vector control. You don't need much room to get you nose exactly where you want it to start shooting if the other guy delays even for a few seconds. Of course, like anything else, screw it up and you're going to get smoked. Ain't no puss game. Unfortunately, you won't see that move from a Hog outside Nellis (especially since both Barnes and Bradley are losing the A-10 and all that FWIC IP experience). You may not even see it at Nellis anymore.
Guest Bender Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Aerodynamically...you don't need to find the anwser here. read a few book if you desire. PM me if you need some hints. As far as 16s vs. 15s vs. 10s. Well...obviously the apbilities that or given are one thing...flying the planes are another... steve gave you reat opp to the manuals...but, just he basic understanding is enough to clear up your question.
