Vertigo Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Don't mix up the context. Not nicer luggage gets a special lane. Paying more gets a special lane that the airlines fund. So, in the case of a road...If someone is paying more to use the road then yes, they could be given a lane special for them. Commercial transportation, for example. Another example is a better toll road. Pay more get more. Do people go to their county seat and wait in long lines to pay their taxes? Interesting. Is that all you use your county offices for? I use mine to register my vehicles, to file court actions, to register to vote, to get copies of plats, to get hunting and fishing permits for the year, among other things. skibum Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) but it is still not legal Where'd some of you get the idea it's illegal for the government to offer more when someone pays more for something? Are you a socialist or something? I pay the US Postal service more to deliver my package overnite. I pay extra to have my passport processed faster when I realize it is about to expire before my "business" trip to Thailand. Most people would be pissed if they made a luxury car lane on the highway, but they paid more for it, so they should get special treatment, right? You mean like this... https://www.coloradod...v-express-lanes Edited March 13, 2012 by skibum
matmacwc Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Since we're bringing up old parts of the thread... I get what you are saying and agree to an extent, but it is still not legal. It is still the US government discriminating against people (theoretically) based on what they paid for their ticket. Most people would be pissed if they made a luxury car lane on the highway, but they paid more for it, so they should get special treatment, right?. If we could get over this discrimination BS on both sides we would all be better off, and by getting over, I mean dropping the whole thing entirely. If you pay more, you get better crap, end of story/argument/debate, God bless you for having or spending the money. If I hear the word "fair" in this discussion I'm rolling BQZips mom over and doing it right. Edited March 13, 2012 by matmacwc

Guest Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Is that all you use your county offices for? I use mine to register my vehicles, to file court actions, to register to vote, to get copies of plats, to get hunting and fishing permits for the year, among other things. Actually, I use the internet or pay someone else to do those kinds of things but I'm willing to use your example for purposes of discussion relative to airport security. Ok, do you wait in long lines to get your hunting permits, file court actions and "other things"? You seem to fall into a super user category and I imagine with all those county office visits they have become somewhat familiar with you. I would imagine you have determined ways to get all those things you do done faster than I do. I would not be bothered if you had special access (along with the paralegals and whatnot) because of your familiarity while I bumble around trying to figure out what the fuck I'm even doing in the county office. Yeah I'm still waiting for that special highway lane to open up now that I've been driving over 15 years. I deserve a break! Where do you live? Pay to play...
Guest Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Oh, who am I kidding...with Citizens United, those with extra disposable income really have plenty of avenues to gain themselves some extra means of "representation" if they so choose. You can't tell me that Sheldon Adelson wouldn't have a little extra "representation" in a Gingrich administration considering he's singularly bankrolled much of the Speaker's campaign. I digress... Or the AFL/CIO or ACORN or Howard Hughes or the Democracy Alliance. The list is long and crosses the aisle. Yes, one way or another money does equal representation.
Disregard Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 $100 to Fly Through the Airport https://online.wsj.co...3630937016.html Hate the full-body scans, pat-downs and slow going at TSA airport security screening checkpoints? For $100, you can now bypass the hassle. The Transportation Security Administration is rolling out expedited screening at big airports called "Precheck." It has special lanes for background-checked travelers, who can keep their shoes, belt and jacket on, leave laptops and liquids in carry-on bags and walk through a metal detector rather than a full-body scan. The process, now at two airlines and nine airports, is much like how screenings worked before the Sept. 11 attacks.
Coasta Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 $100 to Fly Through the Airport https://online.wsj.co...3630937016.html I get to use Precheck at ATL since I'm an uber frequent flyer on Delta. First time I went through at ATL, I thought I was in the Twilight Zone or at least 1992. It is absolutely slick without all the BS hassle of removing shoes and computers etc. The precheck line did seem a bit backed up when I went through last month, but the line moved quick. I still prefer flying international still because of the lack of TSA lemmings. Back on topic... I think if you're in uniform and supply a valid mil ID, then that should satisfy the whole federal background check. Precheck for all military regardless if you're in uniform or not. I don't know if the airlines do, but they should also let military into the lounges free of charge too. I'd prefer that to flipping off some stuffy douchebag who just shushed me for making a phone call. 1
DEVIL Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 It's memorial day and there are guys and gals in uniform flying around the country receiving well deserved praise on their flights, as they should be. I'm currently on a plane with an older guy wearing ACU's with a full beard and instead of US Army is says "DA Civilian". The plane clapped for him, and I have a major problem with it. Should I? What's the word of civilians in military-like uniforms traveling? Looking for some other opinions. If this has already been posted, sorry I'm not scrolling all day with my iPhone. Cheers. 1
Hacker Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) instead of US Army is says "DA Civilian". The plane clapped for him, and I have a major problem with it. Should I? Personally, I say 'mind your own business'. If you are bent (or, worse, have a 'major problem with it') that the airplane clapped for him (some 'undeserved' recognition in your opinion), you need to refocus your priorities on stuff that actually matters. He was probably downrange, too, which makes him more of a contributor to the war effort than 95+% of the US population. Edited May 28, 2012 by Hacker
guineapigfury Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 2. He could be Army Corps of Engineers or maybe just a DA civilian. They're just as much at risk downrange from a rocket attack as the rest of the REMFs. I saw bunches of these dudes at OAKN.
Vertigo Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I know DOD civilians are often times required to be in ACUs or ABUs when downrange and for travelling to/from the AOR. https://tinyurl.com/3kvyy7f

I saw bunches of these dudes at OAKN. And a few of those guys aren't really REMFs at all...there was a USACE guy in a fairly stable part of Afghanistan that used to drive outside the wire to his project sites by himself in a white Toyota truck. It was at a coalition partner base so there weren't any Americans there to stop him. He said he felt safer driving a vehicle that blended in to the population than cruising down the road in a convoy. Not to mention he could go any time he wanted.
skibum Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 It's memorial day and there are guys and gals in uniform flying around the country receiving well deserved praise on their flights Well deserved on Memorial Day? I don't get it - were they dead? People seem to be confusing Memorial Day with Veterans' Day. 1
HercDude Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Your mean people like the POTUS? "Even as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we reaffirm our commitment to care for those who served alongside them-the veterans who came home. This includes our newest generation of veterans, from Iraq and Afghanistan." https://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/1642447/The-Presidents-Memorial-Day-Message.html Or the CSAF and the SECAF? "As we remember our fallen, captured, or missing service men and women, we also express our deep gratitude to those who are currently defending our Nation. Today, more than 33,000 Airmen are deployed around the world, while over 134,000 provide global support from their home station. Among our all-volunteer force, 68 percent of Airmen joined the Air Force after 9/11, and have never known a peacetime military. Where's the Weinstein-signal? We've got some distinct religiosity that would offend non-Judeo-Christians!
