I'm a hobbiest, and my current old fashioned ARs work just fine.  I'll spend my gun $ in other directions (MPX).

That said, if I made my living with it, I'd get a piston every day and twice on Sunday.

It only took the Army 50-60 years to accept what every E1 grunt has said about gas since the M14 (piston) went away

There was an executive order issued today to initiate the protection of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/protecting-second-amendment-rights/

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:

Section 1.  Purpose.  The Second Amendment is an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty.  It has preserved the right of the American people to protect ourselves, our families, and our freedoms since the founding of our great Nation.  Because it is foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans, the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed.

Sec. 2.  Plan of Action.  (a)  Within 30 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General shall examine all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions of executive departments and agencies (agencies) to assess any ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of our citizens, and present a proposed plan of action to the President, through the Domestic Policy Advisor, to protect the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.

Lever guns, whaddya guys got? I'm looking for something in .357/.38. I'm leaning towards the Ruger Marlin 1894 Trapper, but it's so dang expensive I'm also thinking about some of the Turkish guns that have decent reviews like G-Force.

Just looks like fun to shoot, and something a little different from the click click click of firing a semi-auto.

Marlins (not a Remlin) are my favorite. Winchester and Henry are great too, model dependent (subjective of course). If you’re looking for fun range shooting, don’t go too big on the caliber…if you’re looking to knock down Griz, moose, etc. then big is better.

Yeah I already have a revolver in 357, so that's what the lever gun will be chambered in.

I also want it threaded since 357 is rather quiet through a can.

I have a Henry Big Boy X in .44mag.  It's slick, fun, and not accurate at all.

It'll shoot hot ammo reasonably (assuming you don't want to shoot past 50 yards or so), but the softer stuff is atrocious.

I haven't gotten a can for it yet, but that's the plan.  I basically wanted a lever gun that looked like it came out of the Fallout computer game.

Buddy's 45-70 Ruger-Lin Trapper. Wears a can and IER scope now.

That's exactly what I'm leaning towards right now. I like the length, the action is smooth, and the large loop feels good. I just wish they made the Trapper with woodgrain furniture instead of black.

Also, that's the SBL, not the Trapper, right? The trapper doesn't have the pic rail.

I've seen multiple manufactures, including Ranger Point and Magpul, list their buttstocks as 1894/1895/336.

I just emailed them to ask. Nothing like turning a $1500 overpriced rifle into a $2000 overpriced rifle 😅

Pic on Page 246.

I modified the Ruger Marlin 357 SBL with hand guard and stock modifications. Made more sense with 357 revolvers lying around. I couldn’t bare to modify the Ruger Marlin 45-70 version when I received it since it was just too gorgeous = I ordered the 357 version and the quality with Ruger is even better than the original my friend has. Stay away from Remington versions it’s simply atrocious what they did to the Marlin name. Absolutely painful waiting for about three years while Ruger brought about 100 semi’s worth of equipment to their North Carolina facility to revive the brand, but definitely worth it… now.
