kdwntwn Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Tops in Blue just added a Russian Detachment. I wonder how much that exchange program is costing the military?
Shakermaker Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Man those Ruskies wipe the floor with TsIB!! "LLEEDDDIIIBBEEEE!!!"
Guest John Redcorn Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 put some young CGO's or Airmen in charge of the selection process- they know a helluva lot more about what the troops are going to enjoy watching than the 40+ O-6's. In theory that is an awesome idea, but in reality I'm sure the choice of the young Airmen would be some shit act like Lady Gaga or Black Eyed Peas (not that the AF could afford either one). Personally I think my fellow Airmen would enjoy bands such as The Bravery, Spoon, Atreyu, Five Finger Death Punch, Arctic Monkeys....fairly popular groups that might not immediately laugh in the face of some AF officer asking if they'll play on base/in the desert.
Vertigo Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Personally I think my fellow Airmen would enjoy bands such as... Atreyu You had me until you threw this shit band in the mix. I seen them opening up a show last summer and I seriouly thought they were a parody act until I was told otherwise. This band is a joke, although not meant to be. Think frat kids doing a very bad impression of early 80's metal bands complete with Japan's rising sun headbands and red leather pants and you have Atreyu. Atreyu- you may not be as gay as TIB, but damnit, you're trying!
Guest John Redcorn Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Meh, 4 out of 5 ain't bad. Above all I agree with the central message of this thread which is that Tops in Blue is terrible. I had the misfortune of attending their show when I was fresh at my very first base (Incirlik), it was definitely one of those things I look back at with shame. I'm laughing at the dude in this thread from Barksdale mentioning them staying in billeting cause I remember a few months ago driving by billeting on the way to check the approach lights and seeing their bus parked.

Vertigo Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Atreyu kicks ass, you can't judge a book by its cover. I didn't judge the band like a book by its cover. I saw them as an opening act with no preconceived notion of the band. They stunk. And they acted like tools. LIke I said before when I was watching them it looked like some frat boys decided to form a metal band that parodied the early 80's metal bands, until some kid told me that "no, they are serious... that's just who they are". But thanks for proving my point when you compared them to bands that started in the 1970's not the late 2000's.

I've seen them multiple times and they use to be dead on but suck now. Check out their old stuff.
FallingOsh Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 But it's obsolete, so we should retire that bitch.
Guest John Redcorn Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Check out their old stuff. The generic response for literally every musical act. Totally unrelated, but check out some of the old Tops in Blue stuff. They used to be pretty bad ass before, now they sold out and are no longer cool to listen to.
Guest TheBull Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I gotta appreciate TIB's visit to Minot a few weeks back - since they were a higher priority in billeting than me, a permanent-party dude who just PCS'd in and was staying in TLF, they bumped me out of lodging and I got a non-A to stay downtown Ironically they put TIB up on base and performed 15 miles away in town - and I work on base and they bumped me 15 miles away in town. Go figure.

StainedClass Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Fury: I first read this post a little over a month ago and I want to personally let you know how you've ruined my life. I think of this post almost every time I encounter some "shoe-ness". It might be at the MPF, at Travel Pay, in one of the wing commander's tri-weekly meetings or, of course, every time I visit my personal house of pain at that large cesspool of humanity in Qatar. The problem is it causes me to laugh out loud, uncontrollably, at the most inopportune times. It happens driving in my car, when I'm talking with the wife, and it's even happened behind the tanker. I'm a respectable senior officer, how can I be an effective leader when I'm thinking about screaming, "EAT A COCK, HOMOS!" at TIB prancing around on the stage? Damn you, G-Damn you. SC I did the Nellis airshow back in '07. One night after hours, me and a couple other bros went to Fremont Street to gamble/drink/sin/look at naked girls...and we saw the USAF 60th anniversary logo on the Freemont overhead screen (if you've been there you know what I'm talking about). We tried to figure out what was going on, and then we saw the stage. We showed-up just as TIB was starting to perform. So there I was ("NO SHIT...tell us about it, mother######er!"), at a TIB show, INVOLUNTARILY (the stage was blocking access to the rest of the casinos we wanted to see. And we're hammered. What else was I to do, other than stand there and heckle for 30 minutes. Never in the history of man have the phrases "CHOKE YOURSELVES" and "EAT A DICK, HOMOS" been shouted so much, so loudly, by so precious few. Every little bit helps. Do your part to rid the world of this crap.
Techsan Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I love how we fly them around the Pacific in a KC-10. Excellent use of resources.
zach braff Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Is this a new Christopher Guest movie??? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! As sickening as it was, I couldn't help but watch the whole clip. My favorite bits: 1) "It is tough - and the hardest work you will ever do in your life..." 2) Seeing the lackland lasers waving back and forth in the audience towards the end. This is proof that don't ask don't tell is still in full effect. zb
Silentcom Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) https://www.youtube.c...h?v=fM34rIOb9_g I just threw up in my mouth. Edited December 31, 2009 by Silentcom
Radio Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I like all the enthusiastic "go TIB Year XX!!" comments under that you tube vid. I'm surprised none of us have posted there. I wonder how much the AF paid for that documentary.
gimmeaplane Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123183747 I just threw up a little. The name they bestowed upon themselves tees it up for jokes.
Guest Rubber_Side_Down Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 "But if you're not here to give to Tops In Blue and the US Air Force the next year of your life, then you should not be here. Because you will NOT survive Tops In Blue..." Ugh. UFB.

outbreak Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Talk about throwing up! Around the 5:30 mark where they show all the excited audiences, I saw a couple guys from my squadron! I'm gonna have to have a talk with them.
sky_king Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 TIB has been at the frontlines of every major conflict... "Korean War" "Bob Hope Show" "Operation Enduring Freedom" "Mount Rushmore" Some pretty rough locations there. The first chick in the video I thought was Tyra Banks being over dramatic and it took me until abou 4 minutes in to realize that it wasn't an Onion video.
