sky_king Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Thread Revival: I just got a new iPhone so I'm allowed to be all hip and condescending now. Do you any of you guys have iPhones and if so, what Apps do you have? There have to be some great aviation ones out there. I've got FltPlan that gives a lot of good information on every airport in the US but most importantly, where the FBOs are located on the field and their phone numbers. Also, I have aeroweather that gives METARs and TAFs.
Bishop Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I use a HW6945, couldn't be happier I had been carrying around both a pda and a cell phone for a long time.. I finally combined them. I like the GPS built in (its an actual GPS many phones Triangulate your phone and its a mock type GPS. I need to find some software I like for it though.. Just a heads up if any of you wanna use your smartphone when your are working out (for music and what not) check out www.tunebelt.com its the only place I found a case to put my PDA on my Arm that works, if anyone knows of another let me know.
summe32c Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 2. on all previous iphone comments.... stop bullshitting and get the IPHONE. best small investment I ever made. Outstanding service, and with the world of streaming porn anywhere anytime at my fingertips... cant go wrong. you will never be bored. I should be a salesman for these fukin things... you wont regret it. cheers -summers
DFRESH Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I'm a big fan of HTC products... check them out at https://www.htc.com/us/us_product_operator.aspx I've had three different models of their phones, all have been amazing.
ACCBoomer Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I have the blackjack thru T-Mobile and love it. I was an AT&T customer but was not real happy with the customer service. After my contract ended I had AT&T give me the phone unlock codes, put the T-mobile sim card inside and wa-laa I now have my AT&T only smartphone through another carrier.
StretchJr Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I've had the Treo 700W for about three years now (through Verizon) and have been very happy with it. It's got both the touchscreen and qwerty keyboard which is really nice for texting. It's falling apart, literally, and so I'm looking at either the iphone or blackberry storm. I'd prefer to stick with Verizon (especially bc there's like zero 3G coverage in MS judging from the coverage map I saw), which limits me to the storm... BUT the iphone is pretty damn sexy. I'll probably wait to see how the storm stacks up to the iphone in reviews, but if you guys have any additional experience with it let me know. Thanks!

Agreed. I dropped my 6700 when I went over to ATT and picked up a blackberry for cheap while I held out for the Fuze. Now that it's out I'm just saving the money.
DFRESH Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Yeah, I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna buy books next semester or upgrade from the Tilt to the Fuze.... it's a tough choice....
Guest JollyFlight21 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I just (two days ago) bought an iPhone. Absolutely love it. Used the GPS on a road trip (not as good as a car GPS) but pretty sweet little moving map capability. I'm an Apple guy anyway, so it was a no brainer. The compatibility of it with my Macs is amazing. I had a Treo with a PC before, and it doesn't even compare. I'm sure other smart phones are good too, but man, you can't go wrong with this thing. The 3G is screaming fast too. I love the all touch screen. Who needs buttons? I'm not a ninja text message guy anyway. Get an iPhone!
Guest Sakesan13 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Two thumbs way up for iPhone. I even have the 1st gen and still love it. I'm headed back to the sand box in Jan so I think Ill sell it and buy the upgrade when I get back. Cant say enough good things about the iPhone. It's everything in one. Plus with the mobileme service, it links all your computers with your phone. Update one, it updates them all. Awesome Buy one.
Techsan Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 I'd love to upgrade to the iphone, however I haven't been with AT&T long enough to buy it for $199/$299 (8GB/16GB). The price for me would be $399/$499. Ouch! I'm still tempted to take the plunge.
Guest JollyFlight21 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Do it. Tons of apps for it that are great for a flying bubba. Then you have all the apps that are for nothing but screwing around.
Guest AceTomatoCo Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 I just traded my Blackberry for an iPhone and like everyone else has said it is great and can't be compared to other phones. Plus the applications are great.
donkey Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Hmm, so looks like you can't go wrong with a iPhone. I'll stick with my simple, 'dumb' slvr and put the money towards flight lessons. Maybe in the future though...
Techsan Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Speaking of PDAs/smartphones, anyone here know of any good aviation related mobile websites (weather, notams, etc)? I think there's a couple of good applications for the iphone, but I want to know what's out there for a Windows Mobile phone.
brabus Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 You're wasting your money if you're looking to get a smartphone and don't get the Iphone. The thing is the pinnacle of phones/personal organizer/whatever you need. And if you jailbreak it, the thing is even 100x better. ATT also offers a 15% mil discount FYI. At this point, I can't even comprehend how phones could get better...besides obvious memory/CPU increases. Geez, I sound like I work for ATT!

Agreed that iPhone rules...got mine a month ago and like McDolands, "I'm lovin' it." Just to clear it up the 15% discount is on your monthly bill, not the price of the phone itself
uhhello Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 What do you guys pay for your plans? I've heard it is up near 70 dollars a month!
Guest AceTomatoCo Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 What do you guys pay for your plans? I've heard it is up near 70 dollars a month! $30 for unlimited data plan, $15 for voice.

Oh wait, those have been around for years!
brabus Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 We pay about 130/mo for 2 iPhones on the family plan. Before this we had tmobile and were paying 100/mo. The extra 30/mo is SO worth it.
Guest SpunkDagger Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I had a blackberry for a little bit with verizon. It was expensive and all i did was look at porn with the internet access. I got rid of it. Way too expensive and I didn't use half of the features.
DFRESH Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I had a blackberry for a little bit with verizon. It was expensive and all i did was look at porn with the internet access. I got rid of it. Way too expensive and I didn't use half of the features. They have features besides mobile porn??? I personally still use the ATT Tilt, but I'm about to switch to the Fuze.
mhc257 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I know exactly how a phone could get better. A keyboard. Oh wait, those have been around for years! The Ikeyboard was clearly designed for 5 foot tall Asian prostitutes because nobody else can possibly have hands that small...save carnival folk. To IPhone/Mac users: The products look great and I'd really like to get one, but how did you guys break the news to your fathers that you're gay? On a serious note...I'm switching to verizon and want a phone/gps/pda/whatever for 3 tasks: 1) Making calls, 2) Texting, 3) Navigation. I don't want to have to bring a Murse with me everywhere I go because it doesn't fit in my pocket. It would be great if said product had some sort of aps capability that will be of some utility at UPT as well.
DFRESH Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Verizon has the HTC Touch Pro, similar to the Fuze.... A chic I know has the XV6900, and as gay as it may look, it does kind of fit the specs you requested.
