Word just now flowing on CNN.

No details on which base (Eglin or Tyndall).

link (MOBILE, Ala.) Feb. 20 -- The U.S. Coast Guard in Mobile says it is actively searching Gulf waters for two F-15 Fighter Jets reported missing from Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle.

NBC15 News has been told the search was launched after the jets apparently lost radio contact with the tower at Eglin.

The search is being conducted about 30 miles south of Panama City in the Gulf of Mexico. Jets and helicopters have already been dispatched to the area by the Coast Guard and ships are also on the way.

The article I posted saying both pilots were ok was indeed an old report. It was given to me by my squadron Intel officer as the story was breaking, I will kill him tomorrow.

I take the hit as I guess I should always trust, but verify.

This is a tragic day for the Gorillas and the Nomad family.

when the RCC stood us down, the USCG was 17 min out from the location. And that's where I fell out of the loop.

Officials: Pilots rescued after two F-15Cs collide

(CNN) -- Two Air Force fighter pilots have been rescued after their F-15C jets collided during a training exercise over the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday, according to Air Force officials.

Both pilots are alive, but Eglin Air Force Base spokeswoman Lois Walsh said she was unable to comment about their conditions.

The planes were from the 33rd Fighter Wing, a combat-flying unit out of Eglin Air Force Base, near Pensacola, Florida.

The crash happened about 3 p.m. about 50 miles south of Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer James Harless said helicopters, airplanes and ships were deployed from Florida, Alabama and Louisiana to help with the search.

Air Force search and rescue and U.S. Coast Guard crews raced to the scene of the collision to pick up the two fliers, who had been on a routine training mission.

In January, a top Air Force general said a manufacturing defect blamed for causing a midair breakup of an F-15 Eagle fighter, which occurred in November, might lead the Air Force to permanently ground a quarter of those warplanes.

There is no information that points to a manufacturing defect as the cause of Wednesday's incident.

The article above makes it sound like the Paves got em. Good job guys.

That article that mentioned the 16 SOW was from a midair 12 years ago. Today's rescuers were Coasties.

We got stood down before we could launch. We were an hour and a half away, the Coasties were only 17 mins away. They win (not that it was a contest, it's just frustrating to get a mission drop and someone else beats you to it, even when it's the logical call).

Glad the pilots are ok.

 To the Life Support and other troops that keep those systems in working order.

We were all quite relieved with CNN provided us with our Intel update that the pilots made it out.
