B52gator Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 No, I am not a Tom Cruise type looking to paint the one I fly with. I have a "spare" on hand that I "found." Would like to get it painted. Anybody know of any place that does it? I did use the search function...but got lazy after looking through the first 3 returns.

Guest CAVEMAN Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Any artist can paint a helmet. It is not different from a motorcycle helmet. All you need to do is to get the art work and find an artist that know his/her sh!t. Check THIS out I have seen some Vietnam era Army art work. Back in those days, I think it was just cowboy mentality. You will see aircrew with naked women on helmets, probably with a cigarette while flying. Are we ever going to go back to that?
Hacker Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 The best way to do it is to remove all the leather edgeroll, sand/prep/paint the helmet, and then apply a new edgeroll. That takes a pretty good bit of arts and crafts skill, although I bought a case of beer for one of the life support NCOs in the squadron and she helped me glue all that stuff back together so it didn't look crappy. Painting around/over the edge roll just ends up looking shabby when all is said and done.
JarheadBoom Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Flightsuits.com Probably pricey, but it's a professional job.
ChkHandleDn Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 There's a dude out here in San Antonio that does pretty good work. I think we paid around $300 to get our Flt/CC's helmet done. Gunznhozezairbrush
sky_king Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Gunz 'n Hozez Airbrush... Something tells me I'm not their target crowd.
Guest CAVEMAN Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Nice. Me like ! I have seen some unique stuff out there. No do your colors reflect at night? It would really be sweet if they did.
ChkHandleDn Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Is that Dragon Flight in the 85th? Nice. Yep.
busdriver Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 the helos on the helmet had me thinking, oh well.
