PapaJu Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 I've read about units paying for hotel for those who don't live in the area while on duty for the weekend. However, was wondering if travel (i.e. air travel) is discounted when travelling from out of state to your unit's base?
Guest Robes Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Our Guard unit will pay for your hotel for one night if your HOR is over 60 miles from the UTA location. However, i you are over like 100 miles they will pay for Friday and Saturday night. As for the travel you are kind out of luck (the member foots the entire bill) with our unit during UTAs, but there are some ways around it using AT days.
Guest acj7464 Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 I am 100+ miles from my UTA location, and my CPA has informed me that any personal expenses related to my military duty are tax deductable. For me this includes mileage and meals (when not provided my my unit). He has suggested I keep detailed logs of my expenses (especially mileage, vehicle and any reciepts), which is quite easy with a pocket calendar in my car. Hopefully someone else may have more information about these perks.
