Buy a case of beer and/or a bottle of your choice of booze the day before. As one of my bros in pilot training said, you'll either be "drinking to celebrate, or drinking to forget."

With all the old school dudes here I'm surprised it took so long to hear the standard AF checkride tradition. Please tell me that Champ and I are not the only ones who bring booze to an evaluation, preferably the EP's drink of choice.

Not really a superstition but I fly with a flag I've had since I was a young Lt and has been on almost every Ops/Training mission I have flown. Isn't it one of Murphy's laws that if you feel safe something is about to go wrong? I still get nervous getting a checkride. Part of it is over thinking and telling myself not to screw up but the other is making sure that the bro's know that I have my shit wired tighter than a snare drum. I think it's more letting my fellow crewdogs down by fncking up a checkride than me feeling sorry for myself. In the end I just tell myself to do my thing andd get the job done.

Absolutely! A magazine for the Evaluator to read during the flight (nudity preferable), and a bottle of his/her choice afterwards.

Being a former baseball player and a hockey player too, Im way superstitious.

And what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Can I assume that's pretty common in those sports?

And Nole,... nevermind.

I bring a couple cases of beer for the EP and rest of the crew during debrief, you know a crew save is a good save... Worked for me so far.

Cheers

Good call on the reading material. I hadn't heard that one. I'll have to try that one next time...unless my evaluator is of the female variety. I'm not sure I'd be willing to purchase some Man-porn, or risk having a sexual harrassment charges brought on me.

Always have some porn in your flight bag, it gives your evaluator something else to look at.

Assuming of course that you aren't flying with the MEO officer.

or a chick.

also, make it current porn. if you bring me a playboy from 1993 you're showing low SA and at best, you're looking at a Q2.

My technique is to look back at the EP every time I do something good and call it out on the interphone to make sure he's watching, and even give him that "I am dominating this checkride right now" look. In the EPE, I like to answer his questions forcefully before he's done asking them and expand on every topic.

If you don't bring at least enough beer for the crew and a handle for the evaluator (coordinated prior and type/brand should either be known or learned covertly), you haven't been paying attention.

I study.

Pussy.

The night before: A drink, steak dinner, and sex (doesn't have to be with anyone else). Works every time.

EDIT: Seriously, my Tweet IP gave me that bit of wisdom and it has served me well.

So, what do you do to prepare?

As some wise folks have said here, several times before...

Don't suck.

Why wouldn't you do those things every night? Why wait for a checkride?

As long as you fly like there's always an examiner on board, you shouldn't have to change a thing. Sure dig in the books a bit before the eval but as long as you stay away from things dumb, different and dangerous every time you go up (sts), you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

nothing special. a checkride is like any other ride. if you feel you need to "prepare" for it, you're probably not working enough day-to-day to be as good as you should be to be a qualified guy. Kind of like the PT test. If you have to kill yourself the few weeks prior to pass the PT test so you can sit on ass and eat fat pills until it comes time to take the test again, you're not really in shape.

Throw in one of theose snack-bar frozen burritos and a diet cola and it sounds like a normal day in the weapons loading shop at local AMU/AMXS/AGS or whatever the f*ck it's called these days.
