I agree -- under-rated flick, partly because of the ridiculous political-pop culture "controversy" about the lack of a flag-planting scene.  Well researched and well filmed, sort of reminds me of The Right Stuff in feel, but obviously much smaller in scope and more intimate.

My problem with First Man is that Gosling plays Armstrong like a robot in an attempt to show him as intellectual and introverted (both of which were undoubtedly true).  Does Gosling even smile once in the movie?  I think that really portrays him a bit unfairly, as he is emotive and funny in the public appearances I've seen.

Period interviews -- and even ones from later in life -- show him differently.

Yeah I never really researched Neil Armstrong but I chalk it up to dramatization/exaggeration of his personality for movie effects.  I will say his personality in the movie is spot on for the old school folks in the flight test community...because of the strong focus on engineering and safety.

Just watched this and might need a little “me time” now. Some of the best air to air footage I’ve seen. The sound is great as well. I watched wearing a decent set of headphones and the Merlin/Griffon recordings made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Best thing I’ve watched in a while.

Capt Marvel wasn't bad.

I was expecting a lot more Air Force presence though. If you watch the trailer then you basically saw every Air Force related scene. The AF PA is really milking this one IMO.

Apparently there was a lot more AF-oriented scenes that were cut to prioritize the comic story.

Hopefully the blu-ray release has more content.  But it's Disney, who knows, they'll probably make you wait after it's been in the vault for 20 years to get that.

Apparently the vault is going away when Disney+ comes online.

Yep, all these media companies think the breaking off Netflix/Hulu/Amazon into separate $10 a month services is going to get people to subscribe and not pirate.  Bold move...

Especially since I don’t really pay for Netflix or Prime. T-mobile mostly covers my Netflix costs (I pay a couple extra dollars for 4K) and I use prime shipping enough that it pays for itself and prime video is just a perk.

I wonder how the studios’ independent streaming services will impact the premium cable outlets. I’m sure WB movies will definitely still make their way to HBO, and Paramount to Showtime, but will Disney/Fox?

This was awesome. Like how the Ferry Command gal meets up with an airplane she delivered (and signed) 70ish years later. Way cool.

Not a new movie but I didn't see it posted here. I recently watched this movie and found it a bit disturbing (made me examine my heart/take stock and see some of my selfishness in decisions I make). It is interesting to see him struggle with his selfish desire to climb without safety equipment against the risk to his loved ones of dying in pursuit of his goal. A few times in the movie even the camera men had to look away in fear of watching him plunge to his death.

Also just watched it the other day; the emotional aspect was interesting due to his almost irrational approach. But that’s also what makes him able to do it.

Watching Free Solo a few weeks ago while TDY in Virginia.  Was captivated by the story, and the documentary was brilliantly done; but I was also unnerved as well by some of the risks Honnold took.

He is definitely wired differently from the rest of us, but you do have to admire his passion!

Spoiler alert but the CAT scan scene and him filling out the questionnaire was fascinating for that reason. I've watched it twice and was unable to look away during the climb. The shots they got were incredible.

His entry sucked too. They completely shat the bed with EP 7 and 8. They couldn't stop geeking out over the original trilogy references and write a story that stood on its own.

His entry wasn't so bad on its own. It was deliberately pulling those classic trilogy heart strings to get old fans who fell off after the prequels to come back on. I agree some more creativity could have been injected but overall, I rated 7 better than 1-3. Then 8 came out and it made 7 even worse. Likely because it is an extension of the same movie. If no one else caught on, 8 is the only movie that has no time skip between episodes. Every other movie was spread out over years and 8 felt like an immediate continuation of 7, which in turn, made both of them suck more.
