Toro Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Rated Distribution and Training Management Can't get to AFPC from here (there's an acronym page on there somewhere), but here's a geocities link a. Career specialty: The Air Force associates all officers with a given career specialty (or AFSC). Support and non-rated operational officers are given a Core AFSC, meaning that AFSC is the primary AFSC they are identified with. Rated officers are associated by their Major Weapons System (MWS) with a Rated Distribution and Training Management (RDTM) code. Due to the ever increasing cost of training officers in a career specialty, and the requirement to build officers with depth and breadth of experience in their specialty, opportunities to cross-train to other specialties will be limited and based on the needs of the Air Force at any given time. Officers need to understand their assignment options will be constrained by the needs of their specialty and their development within that specialty.

Guest rotorhead Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 The RDTM code is most useful to folks (like AFPC flesh peddlers) to do searches and reporting on types of personnel (lets say pilots in this discussion). (Disclaimer...I have since forgotten all the RDTMs I knew, but let's say JA is for HH-60G...It might not be, but it's close). If you go to the "big computer" and search for AFSC's "Who are the 11H3E folks?" you will only get folks who are currently "coded" in billets as H-60 aircraft commanders (whether they are or are not qualified as such). You will not get H-60 copilots, instructors, weapons folks, or folks that are in staff positions, general pilot billets, etc. Also, unit personel weenies are notorious for not keeping pilots in the right positions/AFSCs, so the list is always wrong. SO, if the question is "Who are the JA RDTM folks?" you'll get a response of everyone who is or was last qualified in HH-60G (regardless of current AFSC). Alternatively, if you want to know who all the helicopter folks are, you search for J* (J wildcard) and get the JA JB JC JH JK (etc.) folks, reflecting all of the rotorheads (regardless of their current duty). Bottom line: Your AFSC changes all the time, based on upgrades and job position/title...but your RDTM does not change and always follows you UNTIL you qualify in another aircraft as your primary. In this example, (if he did not cross-train airframes) the H-60 dude that becomes a new copilot gets the JA RDTM, and retains that JA until retirement, even though his AFSC might change 20 times in 20 years.
I don't exist Posted June 27, 2009 Author Posted June 27, 2009 I appreciate the info so far. What happens if mine is blank? I've been qualified in two MWS's since graduating from UPT.
Guest rotorhead Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I appreciate the info so far. What happens if mine is blank? I've been qualified in two MWS's since graduating from UPT. Send an email to your functional manager at AFPC and tell him your RDTM is blank. I'm pretty sure the local lieutenant personnel weenie cannot make the change without a retina scan/dna sample/anal probe of you.
