amcflyboy Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 When I went through Columbus back in 2004, the club there was rocking, considering all the testimony everybody has placed here thus far about all the other bases. When went through our track select night and our SRO bought a bottle of Weed, and the WG/CC drank with us on this occasion. But before this occured, the manager (civilian broad who thought she was god) gave us A LOT of $hit for bringing it in. WG/CC pulled her aside for it and soon after...she was gone. Said WG/CC is now a BG.
Breckey Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Currently at CBM they make an announcement before any drop that any private bottles of liquor will be confiscated and the owner charged for the remaining booze in their own bottle! Even the bubbly that the FAIPs get on assignment night are taken outside in order to not piss off the club.
Quartz Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 This is basic as, but here is how the NAF system is screwed and can be manipulated by the commander as stated above with the Patrick Aero Club example. Although each NAF activity (O Club, Aero Club, bowling alley) has to make a profit to survive, all the money is funded through a Socialist-style accounting system. Each base has it's own MWRF (MWR Fund) that controlls all the revenue and expenditures into a the NAF activities. So, if the Aero Club makes $50,000 but the O Club loses $50,000, the base can decide to have the profits from the Aero Club sustain the O Club, and give the O Club the $50,000 it needs to break even. Then when the Aero Club needs a new engine and asks for money, the base says, "Sorry, we dont' have any." AAFES money given to the base goes into the MWRF because in reality at most bases, the NAF activities aren't profitable and need the help.
mudhen69 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I can not remember the last time I went to the O' Club unless it was for a mandatory fun activity. If I want a drink I usually belly up to the bar in the squadron and pour one. First, its free...or mostly free. Secondly, and more importantly, I can get as drunk as I want and say pretty much whatever I want without any fear of any real repurcussions. Lastly, there is usually always someone to take you home and if not there are about 100 couches in the squadron to crash on. I know some people on base would be applaed that we have a bar in the squadron and say how unprofessional that it is. I think if you look at the DUI stats, they speak for themselves. Sadly, there will be a day that the squadron bar will go away. Some idiot will get a DUI or God forbid hurt someone after tying one on in the bar. That will bring a shit storm down on us so strong that we will have to turn the bar into something a litte more PC. PS> If I hear anyone call it a "heritage room" I will piss in your coffe mug. It has beer..it has whiskey...it has popcorn....its a ######ing BAR! 1
Stitch Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Awesome: My stepmom was a young 2Lt at Luke back in the early 80's and told us the club was awesome. Said they brought in strippers. 'nough said. Need pictures of the strippers. And your stepmom. 2 on photos of mom AND the strippers! I was TDY at Luke once in the early 80's, maybe me and mom have met...
contraildash Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 (edited) I think I found some current pics of those strippers... Edited September 29, 2010 by contraildash

Had two DUIs in the OG in the span of a couple of weeks in my stint at Elmendorf and the bars were NOT closed down; merely an order if you had ONE drink you didn't drive home" and even that faded away quickly. Proves that there are some leaders out there who don't take the "one person shits their pants and everyone wears diapers" mentality.
Guest Alarm Red Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Had two DUIs in the OG in the span of a couple of weeks in my stint at Elmendorf and the bars were NOT closed down; merely an order if you had ONE drink you didn't drive home" and even that faded away quickly. Proves that there are some leaders out there who don't take the "one person shits their pants and everyone wears diapers" mentality. Unfortunately, Kadena isn't one of those places. No drinking anywhere, on or off base, except in your residence. This because of one alcohol related incident. The 18th Wing has largely been a leadership vacuum since at least '04, maybe earlier. Too bad they send such terrible leadership to an otherwise great place.
Jaded Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I believe it was 6-7 DUIs over the course of 2 weeks and on top of that someone went and punched a Japanese cop in the face. I don't agree with punishing everyone for the mistakes of a few but come on, it was more than one alcohol related incident. You can be a jackass all you want, just keep it in your squadron and don't F it up for everyone else. And really? A Japanese cop? They are perhaps the most non-confrontational, docile cops in the WORLD! Also, don't get a ######ing DUI! It's Okinawa. You can take a cab ANYWHERE for $10!!! There are even companies that will take you home in a cab, and follow you home in your own car so you don't have to go back the next day to get your car and it costs like $20! The Kadena O Club will give you a free taxi home if you show them your vehicle registration. There are countless options. People are ######ing idiots. Don't drink and drive and don't punch cops in the face. It's not a hard game. I'm pretty sure Alarm Red didn't punch a cop in the face. Or get a DUI. However, he's still not allowed to drink, and is subject to the new 11 PM curfew. Discharge people who do stupid shit. Let the rest of us live our lives. Was it a Japanese cop that got punched or an SF member?

Karl Hungus Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 People are ######ing idiots. Don't drink and drive and don't punch cops in the face. It's not a hard game. Exactly. So don't punish everyone because a few people are dipshits. But then again, that would require real LEADERSHIP and not the management these morons have learned since day 1 at the academy.

Said WG/CC is now a BG. Our class get a serious verbal lashing during our track select for bringing in outside alcohol. I mean there was no warning or anything subtle, it was just some evil hawk screeching at us. Then, for our assignment night, we went in to ask if we could bring in unopened bottles (not to be consumed at the club) to be gifted to the studs who got UAVs and FAIPed. That was a total PITA. Took about 2 weeks of weaseling to get that "approved" by that harpy. Seriously, probably one of my more painful UPT experiences was dealing with the club.

Ah yes, the club at Elmendorf. I have such a fond memory of my squadron's Christmas party in '95. Had my first taste (or 20) of Goldschlager. What a great experience it was when EMS arrived at my apartment because I'm hyperventilating while slumped over the toilet in nothing but my tightie whities. Good times, good times. 15 years later... haven't had a sip of the gold flaked bastard since.
busdriver Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Something the OG said here strikes me: paraphrased, "we've overtaken the Marines as far as local complaints." "They" have to do something to save face with the locals, because let's face it that's what it is really all about. If it was about curbing our own problems, they'd make an example of the problem kids and that would be it. But they need to do something to keep the fence sitters from siding from with the vocal minority. This is all the more a problem given the Futenma relocation crap going on. Assuming there isn't any incidents in the next couple weeks, I'd expect the restrictions to go away. If you've dealt with the Japanese, you'd know appearances are paramount.
SurelySerious Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 As of 01 Oct, the Nellis club will only be open Wednesday and Friday.
zrooster99 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Does anyone actually read other people's posts around here or can you just not wait to start spewing your own opinions? Spew.
Stitch Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 As of 01 Oct, the Nellis club will only be open Wednesday and Friday. And so began the slow death sprial of the Nellis club. Someday in the not to distant future after huge losses "Robin's Roost" will no longer be in its current form. It will be transformed into some form of day-care/family friendly snack-bar like facility and Robin will become some little birdie mascot that the age 2 and under set look at from their cages er, uh... playpens while munching upon chicken nuggets and fries. The ultimate form of shoe payback. They'll see it just like the destruction of the Jedi Temple. Kill off flyer heritage at its very core, cut off the head and the body will wither and die.

Serious, you're giving credit to the shoeclerks for this? Sounds more like PC careerists with wings not wanting to uphold the find traditions of the O'Club in fear that it may end their upward mobility. We ain't talking about Bolling here, if the death blow is dealt against the Nellis Club, then there will be no one to blame but those that let it happen...

In my experience, if alcohol is involved in any way, you will get in trouble and get a much bigger punishment.
AZwildcat Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 On a positive note this week, Laughlin began the renovation of YoYo's bar...looks promising.
Swizzle Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 wtfo. . .Sad times. Where will Coach and L.R.P.A. go? And damned if I only figured out three of the four words of her acronym...one more and I drink free for a night!
