Since I am not getting the money for college that I was supposed to get, I am considering enlisting in the Air Force for 4 years, get out, use my GI Bill, go to college, and then come back as an officer. The only AF jobs that are available to me, and the ones that I'm interested in, are (2T0X1) Traffic Management, (2T2X1) Air Transportation, and (4Y0X1) Dental Assistant. I was wondering if anyone in-the-know here can fill me in on these positions, maybe give some pros and cons. Also, is it worth keeping my car if I enlist or should I sell it? I know I probably won't need it if I get deployed, but then again I don't know if I'll be deploying whole lot with either of these jobs.

How far are you into the process of naturalization?

Gotta be a citizen to be an officer, IIRC. Also, I think I heard somewhere that LM jobs weren't open to first term airmen. Just what I remember seeing on this board.

Yes, I'm all aware of that. If I enlist in the military now I'll be eligible for citizenship within 1 year, if I don't, it's 5 years since I just got my green card. Also, although citizenship is not required for ROTC GMC classes, it is required for POC.

I've been through this ROTC topic before and some of the guys that PMed me urged me to join the ROTC and continue to take classes until I get my citizenship, and once I do, have the AF give me the contract and then send me to the FT. I'd gladly take this route it's just that I have some family problems right now which I do not want to get into. If things change, I'll consider going to school, but the main concern for me right now is just money.

Dental assistant sounds perfect with your goals. I am a prior dental lab tech. As an assistant you will most likely be able to attend college once you have completed your upgrade training. The med group environment is very supportive of continued education. TDYs are a possibility; not long as other career fields or as often(in general). The only caution I will offer...if the touchy feely world does not appeal to you, the med group may not be for you either! They have a more gentle approach to handling most situations, even in the military! If you have more specific questions about this career field, please feel free to PM me.

If you enlist, knowck out all your trainings (ie, CSCs) and start school then. This way, you do not get any older and do not waste any time. YOu might be able to get your degree in 4 years. I finished all my requirements in 24 months, but that was 7 classes per semester. Also, if you take classes while enlisted, you don't have to use your GI Bill and will be available for toher things in the future. My 2 cents.

WTFO!

I guess the 20-30 A1C Loads in my squadron have just had a problem getting promoted.
