El Guapo Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 When in a cell, when does lead pass the AA Tacan to 2? Us heavy guys don't see a cell often, but lately I've been on several locals where we have. Everyone seems to be passing the AA at different times. Couldn't find it in any tanker manuals. Just curious.
Techsan Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Its really up to the tanker lead. As far as I know, its not really written anywhere. If lead tells you to join on #2 or #3, I would then ask for that tanker to carry the tacan. That way you can get good DME from your tanker.
GW Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) Better question: Why do tanker toads need log-in pop ups to read this post? GW Edited December 16, 2009 by GW
Snirifle Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 As previously said there is nothing written about passing the A/A Tacan over to 2, but technique we've used (In the KC-10) is to assign each cell mate their own A/A freq since we have 2 tacans onboard with A/A capability so long as it is not required for navigation.
Guest schwabbeau Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) at the schoolhouse we're teaching students to have the second a/c set the a/a tacan so the rcvrs don't get confused. Edited November 13, 2010 by schwabbeau
