RangerMateo Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Just saw this... https://socialmedia.defense.gov/index.php/2010/02/26/dod-official-policy-on-newsocial-media/ Basic summary is that Social Networking Sites (SNS in the document) are to be opened up on NIPR to get with the times. Doesn't mean it will happen...maybe we can get BaseOps unblocked at Vance now...
Toro Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I'm all about having the comm nazis ease their grip, but this is a shitty idea. It's hard enough to get the support agencies to do their jobs as it is. Now they're going to be twittering, poking, friending, and LOLing when they should be helping me figure out why my travel voucher is screwed up. Do that shit at home, do your job at work.
Majestik Møøse Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 This is retarded. It would make a lot more sense to unblock online email (like Gmail & Hotmail) first before letting in all of the gayness that exists on Facebook and My Space. Just block all of the attachments called chinese_sortie_tracker.exe and we'll be fine.
Champ Kind Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Yet some people can't get on Baseops from on base... (Not just the forums, the actual mission planning website). Can someone figure out how to say "Misplaced Priorities" in Latin and have that phrase added to the Air Force seal?
lj35driver Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Yet some people can't get on Baseops from on base... (Not just the forums, the actual mission planning website). Can someone figure out how to say "Misplaced Priorities" in Latin and have that phrase added to the Air Force seal? Ditto. The Baseops homepage is gold when you're on the road. I've got a list of mission planning links I've built in my workspace on the AF Portal, but more often than not the CaC reader on the computers in base ops aren't working or won't recognize the certificates on my card. It'd be nice sometimes to have access to my personal email, but allowing Facebook, MySpace, etc is going too far. Work ain't for social networking. The networks at most bases I've been to are slow enough without all the filtering that will be involved. Anyone want to guess when the first FB related EEO complaint will be filed after someone opens up their photo albums and the office prude gets offended?

Butters Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Status update gearpig is: sitting in the SQ facebookin! these OPRs are total PITA! cant wait for 2 hr lunch @ 1000. LOL OMG!

Spoo Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) Dear Baseop.net, Honestly? I haven't found a website that I CAN'T access at work (no bullshit - the only sites you can't access around here involve porn). It obviously hasn't affected our productivity. Love, The Pentagon EDIT: Drunk Edited March 1, 2010 by Spoo
lj35driver Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Well...the flood gates are opened https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123192627
Techsan Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) Big whoop! We have commercial Wi-Fi in our office, so we Facebook daily anyways. I posted a comment on that af.mil story. I wonder if it'll get posted... Edited March 1, 2010 by Techsan
schokie Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 The networks at most bases I've been to are slow enough without all the filtering that will be involved. The network was unusually slow today at Randolph. Coincidence? I tried going to Facebook.com today at work just out of curiosity, but the page kept timing out. Figures. However, since Randolph doesn't block Baseops forums my social networking needs are met.
JarheadBoom Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Just for shits and grins, I tried Facebook at work today. At 2000Z, it was still banned at KWRI. Meh. Personally, I think nothing good can possibly come from this decision, both locally (even in my own SQ) and AF-wide. Cellphones and what little Internet access is available on the NIPR is distraction enough for the "support" clowns around here...
Champ Kind Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) The first fuck-tard I see using one of our valuable, un-fucked computers (you know, one of the few that actually works, has NIPR connection, and isn't sitting on a Comm Sq. trouble-ticket ETIC for not being "mission essential" enough) for Facebook is going to be sitting the duty desk/DZCO/[insert shit job here], because he/she obviously has enough spare time to be hogging up computers when everyone else has mission planning/travel vouchers/mindless CBTs to accomplish. skinny Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 https://www.af.mil/ne...sp?id=123197526 Social networking now allowed at five PACAF bases.
Guest merlock Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Maybe Big Blue will do something similar to this to the clowns too busy on facebook...
JarheadBoom Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Maybe Big Blue will do something similar to this to the clowns too busy on facebook... Would be nice to see some AF shitbag shoes fired for fucking off instead of doing their job. But... Will I hold my breath waiting on it to happen? Not.
sky_king Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Maybe log the hours on facebook etc and use that stat for force shaping purposes. How much time are you willing to spend?
Guest Rubber_Side_Down Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Any ACC bases get access to FB, Hotmail, etc? Are the only bases getting it in PACAF??
stract Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Any ACC bases get access to FB, Hotmail, etc? Are the only bases getting it in PACAF?? did you read the article? All your answers are there.
Guest Rubber_Side_Down Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) did you read the article? All your answers are there. It's been over a month since that directive was released, and all of those sites are still blocked at our base. Thought maybe it was a MAJCOM restriction. Guess we're the only ones? EDIT: Grammar. Edited April 2, 2010 by Rubber_Side_Down
Guest Rubber_Side_Down Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 but the article is a week old. Are you talking about the post on the PACAF article? That link takes me to a "file not found" message, so I still don't know what it says. The other links in this thread are dated 26 Feb and 01 Mar. I called our Comm Sqd to ask, and I think they are awaiting direction from the WG/CC. Hopefully, we'll get it soon.
