I have searched and asked around, now for the almighty baseops to come to the rescue.

Where did the term motherhood come from as it pertains to briefings before a sortie?

I am just speculating on this, but I think its because the "generic" part of the brief was equated to "motherhood, apple pie, and the American Way..." Anything that sounds like "blah blah blah" after you hear it enough (training rules, anyone?) just get lumped into that category. Say anything enough and it just becomes a trite phrase...like so many other AF slogans through the years... I started flying OV-10s in 1988, and the motherhood expression was certainly "standard" back then.
