Hey there folks,

I am one of the earliest members of BaseOps, I think I was member number like 70 something back in 2002 , when we had the old format, hoping to find some of old friends like MajorM2, Bishop, etc... Got deployed, got into flight school etc, I lost touch with most and now realized my account got deleted due to inactivity ... So drop me a note if you remember me, I am going to try to be more active here now that I am an officer too :)

Happy 4th of July...

Yep, I remember when you were still fighting to get into flight school. Glad to see you made it buddy.

Next big hurdle is SERE and don't know what to expect much other than a 3-page packing list, hoping to put my hands on the controls sometime in September...

Yea what a journey, years of immigration stuff, got lucky and sent to the "Surge" for 15 months... Lucky I got in @ 31 yrs...

congrats on getting into flight training. Did you get a slot through ots? Did you have any medical issues you had to overcome? Oh and I heard at SERE they torture you with the same methods they would overseas to prepare you incase you become a pow, is this true?

I actually wished to go USAF and fly Vipers for quite long but due to certain time-sensitive circumstances, I went the grunt way. I am a Warrant Officer in the Army and prior AH-64 Ordnance tech. We get our slots guaranteed, so pretty much we apply for the slot, like every other service, it is pretty tough to get in the Army Aviation also, especially if you are doing it from Active Duty Enlisted ranks. It worked for me but selection was tough. Didn't have medical issues so far, even though I have a slight prescription I made the Army requirements as far refraction and acuity are concerned. Army guys go through SERE-C along with Special Forces, I don't know what to expect but yes POW camp is part of the training. I heard that torture is mostly mental not physical.
