15 years gone, but never forgotten. At 0747 on Sep 22nd 1995, E-3B 77-0354, callsign YUKLA 27 of the 962nd AACS, crashed just over 40 seconds after takeoff at Elmendorf AFB. :salut:

A couple of years after the accident, we were cleaning out a closet at the 964th and found a box of headrest covers that had been passed back to us from the OC-ALC depot after we were redesignated AACS from AWACS. Every one of them had 77-0354 written on the inside. I've still got one that I keep on my desk to this day.

Tsgt Bart Holmes was a good friend and a good FE RIP

I had just arrived at Tinker to begin training when the accident happened. A few friends that knew I was going to AWACS panicked when they saw the crash on the news.

Lt Col Leary's 552 TRS nametag was still on the board in the flight deck office when I graduated from the FTU. It definitely made you think about your own mortality.

They will always be remembered...

Small world:

I'm here at AMIC with a guy who was just pulling into Tinker AFB the day that happened. He was an AWACS guy too. Also, one of my coworkers was pulling into the gate at Elmendorf and witnessed that incident.
