dream big Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 HAMMER 34 (Lt Gen Goldfein) is being nominated for VCSAF. https://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2015/04/22/goldfein-nominated-as-vice-chief-of-staff/26173597/ Just my personal experience with him: the guy is pure gold, solid leader who gets it.
HeloDude Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Just my personal experience with him: the guy is pure gold, solid leader who gets it. Him being selected for Vice Chief most likely means that he won't be selected to be the next Chief when Welsh retires, unfortunately.
stract Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 if Gorenc is the next CSAF, that would be ok... Goldfein still needs to get some 4-star stink on him.
pawnman Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Just my personal experience with him: the guy is pure gold, solid leader who gets it. I feel like we heard that a lot about Gen Welsh as well. 3
11F Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) Gen Welsh will be the next chairman and Gen Carlisle will be CSAF. Gen Robinson will replace Gen Goldfein as VCSAF when he goes to be a COCOM. Gen Gorenc will be a COCOM, most likely EUCOM. Edited April 26, 2015 by 11F 1
Azimuth Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 if Gorenc is the next CSAF, that would be ok... Goldfein still needs to get some 4-star stink on him. Thankfully it won't be McDew. One has to have COCOM/CC experience to be CSAF. Don't count out Selva either.
F-15E WSO Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) ... One has to have COCOM/CC experience to be CSAF. ... What's that based on? Haven't we had numerous CSAFs without having been COCOM/CC? Edited April 26, 2015 by F-15E WSO
Azimuth Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 What's that based on? Haven't we had numerous CSAFs without having been COMCOM/CC? Not recently, unless you don't count Mosley's time as CENTAF (AFCENT)/CC. The last one the USAF had that wasn't any type of COCOM/CC was He Who Will Not Be Named.
F-15E WSO Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I got you, I'm thinking COCOM/CC = commander of Central Command, European Command, Strategic Command, etc. vs the commander of Air Components.
Nineline Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Not recently, unless you don't count Mosley's time as CENTAF (AFCENT)/CC. The last one the USAF had that wasn't any type of COCOM/CC was He Who Will Not Be Named. I think you're mixing up MAJCOM and COCOM. In fact, the only CSAF that actually was a COCOM/CC in the last five was Schwartz (TRANSCOM). -9-
zach braff Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 No COCOM/CC requirement for CSAF (or any service Chief), but to be Chairman one must have been either the Vice Chairman, a Service Chief, or a COCOM/CC. I was thinking Rand would be the next CSAF but the move to AFGSC likely rules that out. ref:https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/152
Learjetter Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 COCOM = combat command (authority, like OPCON/TACON) CCMD = Combatant Command (e.g. CENTCOM/SOUTHCOM) CCDR = Combatant Command Commander PME acronym review complete. 2

di1630 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Politician words...I remember when the shoes got bronze stars for doing their jobs...I'm leary of anyone who would insert themselves into a fight on the PC big blue side of things. Stars change people. "No one Air Force Specialty Code is any more important than the next in this theater — it takes the entire team working together to get the job done," he wrote in the April 30, 2012, letter. "Airmen like Tech. Sgt. Christina Gamez and Tech. Sgt. Sharma Haynes are the bedrock of our organization." 1
Fuzz Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Any chance of Breedlove, don't know much about him personally but he seems pretty straight shooting when it comes to issues with Russia and our policies. But he also seems too straight shooting for the political level.

Champ Kind Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 As Welsh Enters Last Year, Replacement Race BeginsGood God, anyone but McDew. 1
di1630 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I'll take anyone who actually can fathom that America is not still in a Cold War, Migs are not our biggest threat, the PT uniform/service dress are ok, we aren't going to war with China next year but will probably still be fighting ISIS and has a basic grip on current reality. I'll take any change at this point. Sadly I'd rather have an ABM than a lot of these pilots who are stuck 30 years in the past. Sorry Welsh, I had high hopes. But you were an above avg turd as far as execution. Maybe if you can't unfuck the USAF, nobody can...but I'm willing to give it a chance.
guineapigfury Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I had a lot of hope for Schwartz along the same lines. I think most of the Air Force's problems lie in between the Squadrons and the CSAF.
Flaco Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 CSAF Gen Robinson's 2017 Sight Picture: "5 Groups. Group B/E XYZ, Group B/E XYZ... Viper 11, Border South 2, Work North Immediately!" 1
HeloDude Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 As Welsh Enters Last Year, Replacement Race BeginsGood God, anyone but McDew.From the article...Robinson is also reportedly a favorite of Deborah Lee James, who as secretary of the Air Force has worked extensively to expand the profile of women in the service.McDew, notably, would be the first African-American chief for the service. Given the climate of things, my bet is it will be one of these two.
DEVIL Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I lol'd ... And while her background as a senior air battle manager with more than 900 hours aboard the E-3B/C and E-8C means she has plenty of experience with battlefields 5
Warrior Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 From the article... Given the climate of things, my bet is it will be one of these two. This same dynamic is what gave us Obama over Hillary as the democratic nominee in 2008. Curious to see how that shakes out this time.
