HeloDude Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Part of the Greatest Generation....RIP and thank you for your great service to our country.
Red Fox Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 That was one man I wish I could have met. It would have been an honor. In my opinion, he represented the finest qualities of a leader, officer, and American. RIP.
StoleIt Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Oh man. I am really disappointed in myself that I missed this. He passed away on Jan 2nd. (according to Wikipedia, actually not a lot of press out on this) Damn. RIP Sir. Edited January 10, 2011 by stoleit2x
Guest Scooby Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 A true leader in every meaning of the word.
Prosuper Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 He passed on 2 Jan and had a small funeral 8 Jan just for family and close friends. I think about the end of the episode when they link up with forces from Utah beach and more or less saying that he wants to know nothing but peace and quiet after the war. I guess if he did say that his wish has been granted. RIP
gmwalk Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 A great man, warrior and leader. RIP. I like these quotes from the article: People who knew Winters during and after the war said he is exactly what he appears to be. He could lead without ever raising his voice or swearing. His friend Bob Hoffman, a Lebanon architect, said Winters’ eyes could “burn a hole right through you.” The men who served under him and people who only met him later in life call him a hero, no matter what he says. According to the book, one wounded member of Easy Company wrote Winters from a hospital bed in 1945, “I would follow you into hell.”
SurelySerious Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Just finished reading Biggest Brother a few days ago... amazing guy.
Right Seat Driver Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 RIP Major Winters, may you find the peace you so bravely fought for...
osulax05 Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) It is called The Greatest Generation for a reason. RIP sir. Edited January 11, 2011 by osulax05
sigmanugary Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Easily one of the most respected officers of the 20th century! They don't make 'em like they used to...Definitely one of my role models!
