I was Aeromedical Evacuation when I was enlisted a long time ago. When we had head injuries on board, we would request the lowest possible cabin altitude from the flight crew. BigRed is correct in that it has to do with intercranial pressures.

I think that's pretty common knowledge.  50 feet won't matter though.

Marine Corps Blames Pilot Error for Crash of Malfunctioning F-35 in South Carolina Forest

Kind of a fucked up situation with a non-aviator Commandant reaching in to roll this dude long after the fact.

A quick summary of events, some of you may know more:

1.  Crap Weather

2.  Dude went missed approach

3.  While on going missed his HMD glitches three times going blank - the report indicates no attitude information (assuming in the HMD), but does not say nothing about primary displays

4.  The report says he lost his transponder AND radios

5.  "With no visible reference to the horizon or ground, and unsure of which flight instruments he could trust, he perceived that the aircraft was still not responding to his commands to convert -- and therefore was out-of-controlled flight,"

6.  If you read the report (which is heavily redacted), they place the blame on the pilot "The investigation concluded that the mishap was a result of "pilot error" in that Del Pizzo incorrectly diagnosed the out-of-control flight emergency and "ejected from a flyable aircraft -- albeit under extremely challenging cognitive and flight conditions.

7.  The report recommends NO punitive action against the pilot.

8.  Leadership reviews the report, puts him back on status and sends him to a follow on command.

9.  100 days into new Command the Commandant does a second review of the report and decides to mort this guy in what can best be described as a perception kill.

2,000' in bad weather with a malfunctioning jet and your brain stem can't determine what is up and what is down...hard to blame a dude for punching because he is Spacial D.

Listen, I'm not a pilot but you did what you were trained to do, the board found it justified, and we know you just moved your family across the country to assume command, but fuck you, you don't deserve to keep command.  Sounds about par for the course.  Dude's comments were a lot more gracious than I'd have been, especially if he already has his 20 lol.  "Follow on orders were offered and we're still deciding..."  Not sure why anyone would want to stick around after that treatment.  I wish him the best of luck and hope he falls into a cush post military career.
The investigation concluded the pilot’s decision to eject was ultimately inappropriate because commanded-flight inputs were in progress at the time of ejection, standby flight instrumentation was providing accurate data, and the aircraft’s backup radio was, at least partially, functional. Furthermore, the aircraft continued to fly for an extended period after ejection.”
“While the F-35 was designed from the start to accommodate a short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) version, this requirement is absent from the Chinese design”

Dammit, they didn’t take the bait!

Yup

Who’d a thunk a design to incorporate into one of its variants a giant lifting fan dead center of a medium weight fighter would be a problem?

Obviously the Chinese did

All that said I’d still rather be in our 35 vs theirs when the ballon goes up, not that it won’t be a threat but with all the party tricks ours has it will fare better methinks

What will make their 35 particularly concerning I think will be its price, their propensity to sell it aggressively to their clients and allies and therefore how ubiquitous it might be.  Probably more of a threat to our allies than us (thinking Iran vs KSA, Pakistan vs India, NK vs SK)

Not directly F-35 news but relevant to light/medium weight LO multi role fighters meant for use/production with partners and allies

Russia trying to get the Su-75 flying by offering India production rights

Who would be the customers for an Indian produced Su-75?

Probably not Pakistan. Trying to curb Chinese sales of JF-17 et al in the area?

Quite possibly
I saw this proposal referenced in this dude’s video on the -57

He speculated the Russians were interested in this deal as a way to expand their overall fighter/military business by partnering in this way with India and as a means of bypassing sanctions now and likely in the future
I find that plausible

I could see Vietnam, maybe the Philippines, Ecuador, Peru, etc… being customers if they can actually keep the cost around 30-45 mil a tail and deliver some amount of low observable 5th gen capes

Russia / India, China / Pakistan, Korea, probably Turkey soon all offering light / lower cost fighters… I think it’s time to start thinking about the USA offering a modern, LO-ish, affordable F-5 successor for not just our historical allies of modest means but some of our traditional allies that are not capable economically of acquiring F-35 or like platforms. The CSAF’s comments on a light adaptable manned fighter in London this year I think gives some room for a requirement to be proposed inside the Puzzle Palace and rapidly validated, sourced and built with some DOGE applied to it

I think the strategy we’ve applied with our allies of let’s all buy this jet, system or whatever in the idea that they will fight with us inter-operably might be outdated. We may not need them to fight with us (or much) but to just not be liability requiring us to be there in numbers to defend/deter aggression.

A less expensive but capable fighter and CCA system they can and will buy might be better than the F-35
