Why did he even have to lie? Aside from being a raging douchecannon. "I went to Central Asia and it was really poor and depressing. I think we should build schools there." What more would need to be said?

Yeah, a lot of it isn't making sense. Not like the whole thing is a sham, nor does it look like he's getting a shit-ton of money out of embellishment.
