Tank Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 https://us.cnn.com/2011/US/06/21/north.dakota.flooding/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Is this affecting the base at all? These spring/summer storms are starting to get out of hand!!
rugger7 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 It's not affecting the base directly (besides there being a small lake off the approach end of 29) but in town is pretty bad. Flood Mapping 1562' That shows where the water is expected at 1562' but the city is expecting between 1563-1565' from what I've heard.
Ebony zer Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Mandatory evacuations orders for those in the flood zone were issued around noon today. The news isn't trying to sugarcoat the situation and already saying a lot of people will lose their homes. Also, the housing market up here has sucked for people inbound for the past few years. When I got here there was a 12-18 month waiting list for base housing and less than a 1 percent vacancy rate on apartments and houses so a lot of us ended up buying. Oh yeah, most people don't have flood insurance either.
Champ Kind Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 When does the media ever sugarcoat the news, particularly when it comes to natural disasters?
rugger7 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 New projections are saying 1566' and enlarging the evacuation zones. Also rumor has it the dam in Canada broke.
BQZip01 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 New projections are saying 1566' and enlarging the evacuation zones. Also rumor has it the dam in Canada broke. A broken dam in Canada is a false rumor. Considering we're forecast to be 5-7 FEET above the all-time record, it's pretty bad. In the next 24-48 hours the Army Corps of Engineers are saying it is going to rise an additional 8 feet. For those following the flood's progress: https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=bis&gage=mion8&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1%22 It is going to hit the community pretty hard, but the base is still fully capable of hacking the mission!
theat6bisasham Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 There are alot of dudes in Guam right now wishing the base would wash away and get rid of the NORI/NORE's coming up ...... Just sayin!
BQZip01 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 There are alot of dudes in Guam right now wishing the base would wash away and get rid of the NORI/NORE's coming up ...... Just sayin! Those guys in Guam are from Barkatraz. If anything, they would double their no-notice NSIs...they should pray Minot expands!
M2 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 We're having the worst drought in Texas history (and predictions say it'll run into 2012), and Minot's under water... The head of a lawn deer remains above the waters from the Souris River in an evacuated western neighborhood of Minot, N.D. Friday, June 24, 2011.
