Does anybody know if it's possible to Palace Chase into an ART position? In other words, is it possible to get an intent to hire letter (part of the PC application) for an ART job that hasn't been officially posted on USAJOBS?

The unit is going to have you as a T/R and a civil servant. If your ART application is in progress/process- why worry? Can you line up the Palace Chase to the Traditional Reservist hiring (1288 form process) to meet your desires? The ART side should keep flowing. Now, I was a T/R before an ART for 4 yrs. The ART hiring process is slow and variable.

You are really asking two different questions, so the "in other words" does not fit.

Q1 - Is it possible to Palace Chase into an ART position?

A1 - Yes.

Q2 - Is it possible to get an intent to hire letter (part of the PC application) for an ART job that hasn't been officially posted on USAJOBS?

A2 - No.

It violates federal hiring rules to give someone an intent letter before the position is posted/competed. You can apply for the ART position and then use the offer to PC. However, the timing on that is highly suspect. AFRC has a terrible process for hiring ARTs. Some sail through in weeks while others languish for years. Keep in mind that an ART job is really two positions; one civilian, one military. Only the military part is needed for PC, and you don't need the exact one associated with your expected ART job. The unit can give you an intent letter on any non-ART position just to start moving your paperwork.

For your situation, I would recommend the following:

-Get whatever verbal commitment you can from the unit for the ART job.

-Get the unit to slot you against a TR position to put on your PC paperwork.

-Get out and get the ART job.

Keep in mind that AFRC can always cock-block the ART position at the last second because they have some tool at HQ they need to place (this is not unlikely due to the current NAF down-sizing).

Good luck.

What he said, don't think USAJOBS is the end all/be all of postings though, many units are required to post them on their websites at a minimum.
