What do you guys think this is, the 80s?

Yes, Ram, I do.

Now get off my lawn, and go get me an Ensure.

We are flying jets, running Brigade level ground convoys and sailing ships into waters specifically to push back against Russian aggression....

Seems a lot like what my dad was doing when he was wearing a uniform.

I read this as a critique of what one Presidential Candidate said to the other circa 2012...

Yep, and said candidate lives in a fantasy world.

I want to punch a kitten after watching this.

What's funny is the reaction I get from my more liberal friends when we get into the discussion of how Russia is a threat Obama pretended wasn't coming. This video pretty much illustrates the point of many half hour long arguments in seconds.

Saudi launches 'largest' military exercises in history of region; Operation/Exercise “North Thunder”.  It's also being reported that Saudi has dispatched one Squadron of F-16's to Incirlik AB?

Excerpt; Twenty-one nations are taking part in the month-long drills dubbed “North Thunder”, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, although details of the exercises have not been made public.

Among the nations taking part in the drills are neighbors UAE, Jordan and Bahrain, as well as smaller countries including the Comoros Islands, Djibouti and Mauritius.

Air defense drills were scheduled in advance, but come just two days after Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that Saudi jets would be based at Turkey's air base of Incirlik in Adana province to fight Islamic State (IS) militants.

He also said that Turkey and Saudi could even launch a ground operation in Syria against IS, while emphasising no decision had been taken.

The drills for 'North Thunder' are taking place in King Khalid Military City in the kingdom’s Northern Province. They will finish on 10 March.

Interesting take on Obama's personality and world-view. It isn't entirely a fit for this topic, but It deals a bit with the Syria debacle.

Obama and the Limits of 'Fact-based' Foreign Policy

In short, despite reading tons of philosophy in college and reflecting on his views through opposing ones...he can't comprehend that anyone would have a view that doesn't fit his mold.

I really don't see how this can end well... what's our desired end state?  Why are we still there?  Just hedging against Iranian/Russian hegemony in the Middle East?

1. We don't know.  Something less genocidal than a few years ago.

2. To stymie Russia/Iran.

3. Yes.

I would add there is no good move in Syria (or what's left of it) just less bad moves than others depending on what day of the week it is.

Bomb the remnants of ISIS, Al Nusra, Al Qaeda, etc... try to avoid the Russians / Iranians but sure as hell don't back down if they try shenanigans, keep the Kurds armed and fend off the Turks/Iranians from attacking them, keep funding the Iraqi central gov as it is better than letting it implode and hold your nose while this shit sandwich is chewed on for the next 5-10 years.

Unless we are ok with letting the Kurds get the shit kicked out of them when we pull out (sts) then we are there to keep them semi-sovereign, not bombed and attacked with chemical weapons.  They're good allies, they deserve our support.

Then there's this; Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatens US forces with 'Ottoman slap';

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/recep-tayyip-erdogan-threatens-us-forces-with-ottoman-slap/article/2648958

The first thing I envisioned when I read this headline was "a couple of hot Ottoman chicks having a tussle with lots of arousing slaps, hair pulling, bouncing boobs,  girls ripping the cloths off each other, scratching, name calling, crying, etc". It was a big let down after I read the entire article. This Ottoman Slap stuff seems a wee bit  effeminate for Sultan Macho.  IMHO, the Turks need to understand American Troops have no fear of an Ottoman Slap/Catfight/etc but it is stimulating and all red blooded American men typically get a woody just thinking about this stuff.
