tankerbum Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Up $60 for O-3s in Phoenix. I'll take it.
Herk Driver Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Maxwell is down 12.5% for an O-3 with dependents... 1
Craftsman Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Does this take into account the 1% cut to BAH that was passed in the NDAA?
Gravedigger Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Down for most folks in the DC area, naturally.
Tank Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Down for an O-4 w/dependents in the Eglin area...
10percenttruth Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Down for an O-4 w/dependents in the Eglin area... Same for KBAD
11F Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Does this take into account the 1% cut to BAH that was passed in the NDAA? Affirm, it accounts for the 1% reduction and the removal of the requirement for it to cover renter's insurance. -break- Dude, that's a huge reduction at Maxwell!
MSCguy Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Remember the rate protection clause. For most of us we're frozen at our 2014 rates until promoted, PCSed, or dependent status changes.
Chida Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Little Rock O-4 down 6%. I suspect reservists who go off and on active duty orders for >30 days at a time don't get rate protection. We'll need to see what happens to BAH-II which is more applicable to most reservists.
backseatdriver Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) Maxwell: -9% for O-4 & -8% for O-5...sucks for everybody that already signed leases for this summer.... Edited December 24, 2014 by backseatdriver
pawnman Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 So, with so many of us reporting close to a 10% drop in BAH rates, can anyone explain how the Pentagon released this blurb as an INCREASE in BAH for most service members?

You're only pay protected until you get promoted OR to your current orders end date.
uhhello Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 So, with so many of us reporting close to a 10% drop in BAH rates, can anyone explain how the Pentagon released this blurb as an INCREASE in BAH for most service members? Some places went up significantly. Obviously.
Herk Driver Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) Even with a promotion, BAH rate protection applies, somewhat. You get either the new pay grade rate (unprotected) or the previous grade (rate protected) amount if it was higher. Specifically addressed in the FAQs, number 7. With the nearly 10% drops in some locales, this will be a factor.https://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/faqbah.cfm#Q7 Edited December 24, 2014 by Herk Driver
MCO Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 little rock is only down if you have dependents... if you are single you are gaining as much as guys with dependents are losing. The difference between an O-3 with and without dependents now is only about 80 bucks. It was about 200.
Bode Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Because most here are Os where as the Es are having increases for the most part.
McDonut Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 O4 @ KBAB + 7%. Still not enough... It's not like you are forced to live in Lincoln and Roseville. There are plenty of quality homes in Marysville! /s Seems like most below O-3 are seeing a pretty bad decrease. There goes everyone's 40 minute commute gas money...
ClearedHot Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 For my area O-6 with dependents went down 8.6%....O-6 without dependents went UP 7.3%...WTF, am I supposed to ditch the wife?
