Cinque Terre, Italy...hike the trail connecting the five villages on the Med. You won't be disappointed.

If you end up in Europe, I second the Cinque Terre idea, awesome place. London for the olympics also sounds like a blast, but you better book your hostel now, or plan to fork over some serious cash for a room.

Another option, if you are looking to relax on a beach, space-a to Hawaii from Travis and stay at Camp Bellows (cheap!)

If Asia is your thing, I highly recommend a tour of Vietnam. I once did Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City in a week. Some very interesting things to see there. The infamous Hanoi Hilton still stands as a museum; you can tour the Cu Chi tunnels outside of Saigon; take a boat ride in the Mekong delta while rocking out to CCR; have an awesome suit made in Hoi An. All in all, a very cheap vacation, great weather, hospitable people, and some sobering moments of experiencing rarely visited American military history. Also, Vietnam airlines is gov't subsidized, so you can fly between Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh and other Asian capitals cheaply. I was in Bangkok, and flew that round trip, starting and ending in Bangkok, for somewhere in the ballpark of $300-$400. Decent hotels run you about $40 a night, and meals are maybe $10-$12 if you go all out with appetizers, main course, and several beers.

Souda

I know for a fact I'm not alone in this...Souda has some of the homliest women on the planet. Even the over-the-air porn that comes on at 2100 isnt worth watching.

What you need is one of those Greek beaches where the scandivians go. I've never been but I've heard the name Olympos put out there.

Can we ban Masshole for a year?

I thought it was actually a solid piece of inadvertent bromenship. I've heard some stories from an Aussie equivalent to our PJs; watch out for the Thai lady-boys.

East St. Louis at night - suggest you make it last on your list.

If that doesn't float your boat, then, if you like Scottish history, visit Edinburgh, Stirling, Falkirk, Flodden, and Culloden.

If you go to the mainland, I suggest Munich (already mentioned) with a side trip to Dachau. Then rent a car and drive to Lucerne or east to Salzburg (if you like the Sound of Music and/or salt)

Have a good time.

I could only be so lucky to have my operation go as smoothly.

Anyways, do not miss the best scenery on Earth in your life:

I've spent a bit of time in Asia - Korea, Japan and Thailand. Hawaii and AK are great, but seen quite a bit of both.

Bangkok made Las Vegas feel like a church retreat.

I'll probably be sticking to Europe this summer - but also considering S. America. Don't know how hard it is to get down that way without buying a ticket - anyone know? Appreciate the posts..

If you can hook up with the right people and agree to fly a gutted out Cessna 310, I hear you can actually make some money going down there.

But seriously....If you know someone who works for the airlines ask for a buddy pass. It will cost you a little and you will be flying standby but generally flying international isn't too bad on a buddy pass. It is actually easier to fly international than domestic on a buddy pass from what I have seen. A round trip from Atlanta to Munich is a little less than $500. I haven't looked at prices for South American destinations but I would imagine they are roughly the same. I think the price is roughly based on the flying time and Santiago Chile is about the same flying time as Munich from Atlanta.

Soto Cano runs are now primarily flown by Jackson, but they do stop in CHS. The shuttle runs once a month, second Tuesday every month if I remember correctly.
