flynhigh Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Damn. He did a great tribute to Bob Hoover at OSH this year flying the Shrike Commander routine. Executed beautifully. Him him.
rancormac Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Also not at an airshow, but friend of a friend of aerobatics competitions. https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Small-Airplane-Crashes-in-Borrego-Springs-169041686.html Point being, quite a few deaths recently. 1
HuggyU2 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Also not at an airshow,... Point being, quite a few deaths recently. Yep, not at an airshow. So please don't do like the media, and call it "airshow related" just because an airplane is involved. From what I remember off of the top of my head, I can think of 2 fatal accidents at airshows this year. Hardly what I would call "quite a few".
rancormac Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I didn't call it airshow related. In fact I pointed out it wasn't at an airshow. The focus on "quite a few" was the "recently" part, being the irony that as this topic on baseops is going on, another pilot goes down. My bad if I don't share the same metric as you do for what is considered "quite a few". Airshows are not too dissimilar than aerobatics, which is what my link was referring to. It also piggybacks on the general consensus here that let people do what the want. The risks are known, and no one is forcing them to do it.
