BQZip01 Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Looks like the Boeing folks have a new cruise missile up their sleeves...no, not literally https://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2012/10/25/boeing-successfully-tests-microwave-missile-that-takes-out-electronic-targets/ 1
nsplayr Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Beep boop boop beep beep boop boop beep. 1001001110110010010. And as a proud nav, all I can say about this post is...f*cking EWOs!
matmacwc Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Looks like it'll fit on a fighter, why are EWs rejoicing?
Danger41 Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Looks like it'll fit on a fighter, why are EWs rejoicing? Love of the game
Spoo Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Kudos to Boeing on the artist's rendition. I'm pretty sure I dodged those buldings in the Tweet sim in UPT. 3
sky_king Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 The missile, known as CHAMP (Counter-electronics High-powered Advanced Missile Project), fired a burst of High Powered Microwaves at the building, successfully knocking out the electronic systems and computers, and even taking out the television cameras recording the test. However, the Hot Pockets in the break room still had a cold center and tongue melting hot outer core.
schokie Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Looks like it'll fit on a fighter, why are EWs rejoicing? What if you're an EWO that flies fighters? Sounds like a double win to me.
TAMInated Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 What if you're an EWO that flies in the backseat of fighters? Sounds like a double win to me. FIFY
Guest Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 What if there were such a thing as an EWO that rides in the backseat of fighters? Sounds like a double win to me. FIFY
Champ Kind Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 EWO, WSO, nav, what's the difference? Levels of nerdiness? 1
billy pilgrim Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 EWO, WSO, nav, what's the difference? I think they make radio calls as well so the pilot can concentrate on flying that non single-seat aircraft. 1
schokie Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Well, all the Taliban I've killed would argue I do more than just ride in the backseat. To be fair, killing assholes is my primary job, EWO is is more of a hobby. Minus the eating boogers of course. I just wish Boeing could create a weapon that makes more of a boom and less of this weak new age tech BS. What happened to the MOAB?
BQZip01 Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 Actual video of the test from inside the test structure. A CD drive literally throws up a CD. Knowledge is useless on Rainman 1
schokie Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Never mind. Forget I said anything about being an EWO. I have no idea what he's talking about. 1

(I didn't have sound, so maybe they said something about the test site?)

AZwildcat Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 "In all, seven targets were hit using CHAMP’s high power microwaves in the one-hour test that degraded and defeated the electronics inside the test buildings." Or just re-commission ENRON to manage their electric grid. "James Dodd, vice president of Advanced Boeing Military Aircraft, part of Phantom Works said there is a real need for a weapon that can defeat a target and not cause harm to people and structures." Real need huh? This will be especially useful in Afghanistan...where there are so many electronics inside high rises
