Muscle2002 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Are all the -38s updated with the new seats? Not yet...Edwards still had old seats.
SocialD Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 One hates to think how the outcome of pre MB -38 ejections would have turned out had they had the good seat. It probably would have turned out fine.
Infamous Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 (edited) Are all the -38s updated with the new seats? Back in my day, we had to wear parachutes and the final turn would kill you... Edited July 20, 2013 by Infamous
Cap-10 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Back in my day, we had to wear parachutes and the final turn would kill you... The final turn is still deadly! Even though the new MB seat has better capes (it is 0/0) than the old seat, the 3000-4000 VVI and 45 degrees bank angle in the final turn is still a bitch...getting wings level, althought still with a hearty sink rank, increases your survival chances immensely!! We also still use 2K/15K for controlled/un-controlled bailout altitudes, which are the same numbers for the old seat IIRC. Cheers, Cap-10
HossHarris Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Are all the -38s updated with the new seats? Tyndall has old seats. And a/b models, steam gauges, original motors, etc. It's a t38 from the good old days like your grandfather flew.
Hacker Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Anybody care to bitch about the RCP visibility of the new seat now? Martin baker puts the old seat to shame. I don't see anything about that particular ejection that the "old" T-38 seat would have had problems with.

Buddy Spike Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Does this seat have the same homo leg garters as the T-6 seat (and all of the Navy seats)?
Tank Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Does this seat have the same homo leg garters as the T-6 seat (and all of the Navy seats)? Yes - around both thighs and calves...

brewskis Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Are all the -38s updated with the new seats? END is getting the new seats in 2015, last time I heard.
matmacwc Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 DLF was the first, pain to get into, but obviously worth it
Cap-10 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Seems that the chute wasn't too far away from the RCP canopy and the burning wreckage isn't too far away either. Low altitude ejection?!?! I bet it all happened very quickly. Thanks Martin Baker and the Life Supoort Troops! Cheers, Cap-10 1
'DC' Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Don't you get the option of getting the seat too (after a certain amount of time)? We've had one in every squadron bar I've been apart of. We have the one from our Sq/CC ejecting in the 13th. It'd be a hell of an office/bar chair. Here's to AFE, and to friend and mentor Alec Littler and all of those that the new seat was years too late.

A few years late indeed. To Littler and Funk. 1
Toro Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 AIB is out: Bird strike brought down T-38 Anybody know how to access the original AIB report? I'm curious to see how it differs from the SIB.
