Bone76 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Currently coming up on 10 yrs active duty as a B1 WSO. Looking for a change so looking at C-130 posit in ANG for ability to move family closer to home (East coast) among other reasons. Definitely have some questions though. First, if I have 23 months of ADSC left due to signing GI bill over to my kid, so I think I would have to Palace Chase. I figure this is likely in this era of force mgmt but who knows. What's the first step though? Second, or maybe most most importantly, what are the best reasons to go ANG? I mean, I am pursuing for location and a change, but what else makes people so happy about ANG? Seems simple but I just don't know. Is there a commitment to transfer? What about an additional ADSC for Palace Chase? What if I start FT (AD), but want to switch to PT (Traditional?)..is that something that can occur anytime? Can I start PT and if I don't find a civilian job work more days (so-called ANG "bum"?). Lastly, is it career suicide? In a way, the search brings about guilty feelings such as betraying the community that embraced me. But outside of personal emotions regarding a huge career change, are there opportunities in the guard to progress in one's career, or is it find a job and stick with it until you have enough "points" or whatever and retire. Thanks!
