Guest Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/01/30/president-obama-announces-more-key-administration-posts President Obama nominated Miranda Ballentine for the position of Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Logistics. She is currently employed as the Director for Sustainability, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Facilities for Wal-Mart since 2008. The title is a probably too harsh, as she likely had some good environmental programs and efforts while at Wal-Mart. Of course, since we're talking about Wal-Mart, saying you improved their sustainability is like saying you reduced the number of food-poisoning incidents at Golden Corral from 500,000 annually to only 499,000 annually.

I see WalMart as leading the way in "smart renewables." They're choosing green technologies in places where in makes sense, and they're not afraid to say "Great... But coal is dirt cheap. We'll keep using fossil fuels when they are the most cost effective." Contracts for leasing solar panel space in exchange for locked in energy prices are being let out of Bentonville.
StoleIt Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I'm actually okay with this. It is pretty hard to argue that Walmart isn't extremely efficient. You probably could argue that the DoD will do everything in its power to resist becoming efficient though...
pawnman Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 If there's one thing Wal-Mart does better than any company on the planet, it's logistics. It's possible that Miss Ballentine is the perfect person to un-fuck Air Force logistics.
Guest Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 My complaint was the sustainability part of her title. Wal-Mart's ethical business and environmental practices are laughably underhanded.
Boxhead Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 ...Wal-Mart's ethical business and environmental practices are laughably underhanded. which makes her a perfect fit! Ever been to any of the places the military has "stored" toxic waste?
