flyinghigh Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Hey everyone, so I fractured two bones in my hand today and the doctor said it'll probably take 6-8 weeks to heal and my flight physical is on March 9th. I'm pretty sure I have to move it to a later date, or can I go with a cast? I'm just a little worried this might affect me more than I would like. I tried searching, but couldn't find anything on this.

flyinghigh Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 I actually crashed my bike today. Here's a couple pictures: https://imgur.com/qroR3KE https://imgur.com/InbLmKn
brabus Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I would reschedule if it doesn't seriously affect your overall timeline. The best you can do is break even, but there's too much risk something negative will happen if you show up with a cast.
one1 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 They will want it to heal before finishing your paperwork. Since I had broken bones in my hand, they had me open and close my hand and tested my grip strength before they approved my FC1.
flyinghigh Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 I'm also wondering, if anyone knows, what happens if it doesn't heal in time. I'm supposed to commision in May and if it's not healed by then can I go to my flight physical after I commision? Or is that not possible?
Guest Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 At a minimum, you'll need results from an ortho. If your lucky, the fractures won't require a cast. Most likely this will delay you a month or two.
flyinghigh Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Alright, a little update on my situation. I had to get a cast, but I'm only wearing it for 3 more weeks. I'm going to get it off on the 6th of March. My flight physical is supposed to be the 9th of March. Would going to my physical with a bit of stiffness in my hand be alright or no?
Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 You'll be okay. bring copies of the Ortho / PCM eval and be honest. As long as it's not a strong decrease in strength, mobility, etc., you'll be fine. At most, they'll have you re-examined in a few weeks.
