Can anyone talk to how this until will be manned? Are all the current and qualified Keesler guys moving with the jets? What about the guys from Pope who attended JMATS, are they moving that direction? Any 913th or former 403rd/440th guys that are moving know when hiring of active duty current and qualified J-model pilots will begin?

I am not in the unit but I am stationed at Little Rock. The reserve unit (22AF Det 1) is being renamed the 913 AG. They are currently flying the H model. I would imagine, most of the current folks would crosstrain.

It depends on how quickly Congress gets the budget signed and the how soon the squadron commanders get the execute call to begin the transition. If congress drops 10 J models on the ramp in three months, obviously that's not enough time to send cadre through from the 50th to be spun up for the new aircraft. You'll probably be seeing already qualified J guys from the 41st picking up some of those spots, especially since crew ratios are going from 2.75 to 2.0. On the other hand, if Congress wants to slow roll the transition and we start seeing airplanes trickling in this time next year, we may have the opportunity to send some H guys through the J schoolhouse. The problem right now though is the J schoolhouse is pretty well tapped out for the foreseeable future.

Is the plan to still TFI with the 50th? Or will the 50th shutdown like the 53rd is in the process of doing? Or go J all on their own like the 61st?

On the reserve side I have it on good authority that the CC, DO and Supt all got fired. Like admin leave, don't gotta go home but you can't stay here fired.

If you're asking about the 50th side, Shooter is still the CC.

What else are you looking for?

How recent was this?

There isn't a timetable to Js. At least not until a budget gets signed. Same speculation about Keesler tails, pope, TFI units in general…just smile a lot and wait to see what happens.

Don't worry, you'll be able to retire.

You're funny. Who retires in Little Rock?

Any more words on the rumored firings of the DO and CC on the reserve side?

No rumors, they were canned a few months ago. The DO got his ATP and 737 type I believe. I dunno what the old CC is up to. They've all moved on last I heard

The former DO is working on his ATP as we speak. The old CC went back to being Chief Nav and is almost ready to retire. The new guys were already in the unit and are good dudes...and really the only other two leadership-ready ARTs still around.

Edited to make a distinction between the current DO and the former DO.

Bunch of good dudes over there.

Any updates on the J conversion? Last I had heard the closing of the Keesler unit was not a sure thing anymore, there alone the placement of the iron (KPOB vs LRF) should it actually happen.

Still up in the air. USAF still wants the airplanes at LRF. Congress directed that the USAF must submit a report detailing why they are moving airframes and must wait at least 60 days past the date of that report before they can move aircraft. The 913th has developed a very tentative plan on getting people trained in case they (AF and Congress) pull the trigger. Nothing solid, though. Hopefully something more meaningful will be announced in February or March.

So any unit that has any firings of the unit has me raising an eyebrow. I was looking at that as a possible future unit but the spidey sense is tingling here. What are the thoughts on the unit as a future home in light recent events?
