CDAWG Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Tried the search function and there is only info for Creech. My wife just received orders to Nellis AFB. They've only given us a week notice before she needs to hit the road. We are trying to find her an apartment that is in a good neighborhood not too far from base. She is not into gambling or drinking so being close to the night life or near the strip is important to her(I on the other hand can't wait to visit!) . Any recommendations on cities/areas/apartment complexes we should check out?
brabus Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Define "not too far"...I don't know a single person who lives < 25-30 min away (for good reason). I'm sure there are outliers, but like a lot of major city bases, the areas/neighborhoods around the base are shitty. The guys I know live in either Summerlin or North Las Vegas (area near the Aliante Casino).

brabus Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Look in Summerlin or Club Aliante (those are the two most popular places to live for the reasons you cited).
ForgotPassword Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Anything off on the 215 on the north end of town is pretty nice and safe, short distance from base too
Muscle2002 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 For those in the know, how is the current real estate market in Vegas? I've seen that prices have come up from the bottom but I've also read that these prices came up quickly due to outside investors. Is the area likely to have another drop or do you think the market stabilized? Any other gotchas I should be aware of? My family and I are moving there this summer and are debating between renting and buying.
sqwatch Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Stabilized. I'd buy. Rents are high due to everyone having a credit score of 169 and unable to get a loan. Rent that b-tch when you leave and build equity. 1
HU&W Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 No bubble. Prices are stable with 6-9% growth per year. This is mostly due to a influx of business with large growth in data storage/processing, engineering firms, transportation, and of course entertainment. Buy. 1
brickhistory Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Grumpy old, married, no kids left at home GS just scored at a job at Nellis. Haven't been there in 9 years. For QOL/ease of commute/not have to fight off meth zombies - and renting - is my best bet Green Valley/Summerlin/Henderson? Yes, I have been through this thread.
Switch408 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 My 2 cents: I live in Summerlin. It's been a nice part of town for a while and it keeps getting better. The Downtown Summerlin area was completed about a year and a half ago- cool new area with lots of awesome restaurants and stores. Couple that with the Boca Park business area and you really can't get bored. Yeah its on the other side of Vegas from Nellis, but put it to you this way: I'm stationed at Creech which is much farther than Nellis and I've never once regretted living here during my commute to work.

Personal recce confirmed this. Great advice, thanks. Wound up just south of there in Spring Valley. Move next month.
