Prosuper Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Came across this and noticed the tail number was a jet I used to be a Crew Chief on back in the mid 80's at EGUN. All I can say it was providence that it happened on the takeoff roll and not airborne which would have been a much worse outcome. https://www.omaha.com/news/military/disaster-averted-at-offutt-but-major-questions-remain/article_41bfc96a-8b03-510b-b0f1-7d7d8633cd26.html
Breckey Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 He said later he figured someone had just left a chicken sandwich smoking in the oven, but he quickly decided to abort the takeoff anyway. That would look great in the PMR.
Ripit31 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 This is definitely one for the CRM "win" category.
flyingbimmer Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 "The stench of stale urine lingered in the air as 27 airmen from Offutt Air Force Base’s 55th Wing climbed aboard the RC-135V Rivet Joint jet late in the afternoon of April 30, 2015".-so accurate
Hotshot Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I logged many hours on 848 in the early 90's glad everyone was able to get off the bird
