Do you or anybody else here have the official dates for the AFRC OTS/UFT Board and package cutoff? I've heard Novemeber 14-16 but haven't seen anything official.

While there is a lot about this that is still unknown, this statement is not true. This would be mandatory for anyone that graduates UPT after 01 Dec 2016 if no change is made from the memo I posted last month.

Keep in mind it is a memo that you have to sign. So don't sign the memo and it doesn't apply.

I cant imagine it will be as easy as just not signing the memo. Sure you don't have to sign the memo, but I can't imagine they will send you to OTS.

Now if you are talking about the people that are already in UPT, then I can see how that could work. It will be a mess if a large majority say no thanks after already getting through the program. AFRC will have to decide if they are willing to loose current trainees and future applicants over this commitment.

I have heard there are people trying to get out of the commitment, through waivers I believe,  who have civilian jobs they do not want to lose. This might be the way out future selects as well, but just not signing the memo doesn't seem like it would work.

I can imagine its that easy. The reserve commitment that you sign becomes valid upon package submission to the AFRC board. They can't go back and time and make you sign a different commitment, which I think is why they've realized its not enforceable for any of the boards that have already convened. I think they're happy for anyone they can coerce into re-signing due to the language of the memo, but I don't think they actually have any legal standing to enforce it unless the original commitment you sign is the "new" one. That's at least the message they're passing down to the recruiters as well. So please, ask questions before you re-sign anything!

I'll take your word for it. I wasn't even given the option to sign it. I did ask about it after I had swore in and they said its not something I would have to worry about for another few years.

I imagine there is probably a new memo floating around that more clearly lays out what is going on.

So if I graduated before 1 December, and may be interested, does anyone know how it works.

Im guessing I have the normal Herc prog tour then maybe possibly, if I am interested, my unit applies for an opening?

You would... Wouldn't you? But there isn't. It actually is this vague for anyone. If you make training dates with the signature I wouldn't even look back. Most likely your training is paid for and you're old news to AFRC.

That's a good thing.

It'll be available. They'll contact you when they can process anything but until then you just gotta keep trucking.

My recruiter contacted me this week and asked me that they're looking for unsponsored applicants for the next board. While I would love to apply, I'm worried that since I haven't completed my PPL yet (20hrs) will get me rejected. He seems to think that my scores (98 Pilot; 73 PCSM which is going up to 77 after next week due to flight time). are competitive enough for it to be a non-issue. Does anybody have any insight into this? He's also told me that I have a two lifetime limit to go up to the AFRC board so I definitely don't want to burn a time.

Thanks!

PS. Also I have some confusion about the board dates. He told me it was in November, but I'm seeing everywhere on here that it's in January. If that's the case there's the small possibility I would have my PPL by the time they convened, if not then super close.

Your concerns are valid but if you don't apply then you won't know. I haven't heard about the two time-application limit but I wouldn't be surprised it was true. When you talk about being sponsored/unsponsored you are always referring to the AFRC UPT Board which is being held in November this year. My OA recruiter told me they usually have applications turned in by 2nd or 3rd week in October for this board. The board in January is the board for Active Duty, meaning you are already a commissioned officer and looking to cross-train to pilot from another career field. The original poster started this as a 2016 AD board discussion but has since moved to an AFRC board discussion which can be confusing. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, over the summer when I met with the OA recruiter, I signed a document saying I understood there was a two lifetime limit to go up to the board. Not sure how recently implemented this is. If it is the case, I'm trying to make a educated decision (gamble) for myself. If this were still the old rules (365days until next board you can go up to), how would that affect me trying to get sponsored early next year if I were to get rejected? Would they still be willing to sponsor me with the idea that my package may not go to the next board, but instead the next board I'm eligible for?

Can an ART take a military leave of absense from their civilian job. ie: can i keep my airline seniority if i get picked up by the reserves? I know i can keep it up through seasoning but will i be forced to quit after that?

Check out the "leaving the AF for the airlines" thread, its been discussed there. I'm fairly certain there is a legal requirement that you keep your seniority

I will be putting in for the upcomming UPT board but I'm a little conused on the submittion date.  On the recruiting website the powerpoint says packages are due dec 15 but i've been seeing on the internet that the date was moved up to November sometime.  Where did this change come from and why is it not on the Official website?

You may be confusing the active duty rated board with the OTS UPT board. The active duty rated board is for already commissioned active duty officers, and that board has had a submission date of November for the past 6-9 years at least. I have no clue about the OTS board.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.  I had to sign a ANG statement of understanding this past week and no where did it metion anything about the requirement for 6 years as an ART.  So it looks like its still a reserve thing.  I've been debating whether it would be best to try and work as an ART for a while and then try to get pickup up by the airlines, or just stay a TR and try to find some other kind of civilian flying gig.  I'm thinking I should have close to 500 hours once I finish up my flight training.

Is it pretty easy for a newly trained military pilot to get some kind of local flying gig with a 135 company or something of that nature?  I assume thats what most do to get the 750 hours required for a restricted ATP with the regionals.

If things stay as they are... you're not going to have any problem finding Civ flying work. Just keep your finger out of your nose when you interview and you'll be fine. I wouldn't commit to any long term ART or AGR right now until you have a seniority number. There will be plenty of flying at all squadrons. Talk around to the guys that are working civ jobs in your squadron I'm sure you'll here something similar.

To all you new Upt hires... look at what's going on around you and learn. The guard reserve has HEMORRHAGED pilots the last three yrs. And what is AFRCs solution...? Improve quality of life? Try and make things better for aircrew? Nope they try and force people into the jobs that hundreds have just left... NO ONE is fighting to stay in ART jobs. Everyone's fighting to leave. It's never just one reason there is a push/pull theory at play here. The majors have got it figured out, and they have been pulling hard bc they know the game. The toxicity of our command is heart breaking. We are plagued with "leadership" who has had the luxury of a downturned pilot market and has commanded whatever they wished and people would stay. Now there are options and they don't know how to react bc this is an environment that current leadership has never known... until now. They had better learn quickly the doors open and people are walking towards it....

Does anyone know when the results for the AFRC Fall board will be posted?

The results should post around the second and third week of December. Most like the week of the 10th. That's when they posted last year for the fall board. Good luck to us both!

Did just the "mandatory" part get scrapped, or is it still available if wanted. Finishing up Herc FTU in a few weeks and was wondering if it's still an option ?

It is still available just not mandatory. This was the original intent behind the program from the beginning.

Results for the 16-02 board should be out by end of this week/early next week. If anybody gets notice or sees the listing... please post on this forum. Obviously use common sense and exclude PPI. Thanks! Good luck!

AFR 16-02 UFT Board Selectee results should be released soon. If you have access to mil computer you can look up through the AFRC Sharepoint.  Go to AF Portal >>> Search AFRC Sharepoint >>> Go to the Share point >>> Select A3 from one of the top titles, scroll down selections, across the top >>> Go to A3R Aircrew resource management >>> This should bring you to the UFT info. The results should have been released on 12 December, as stated on this page, but currently the release is only waiting on AFRC/CC signature/approval. It will be posted any day now!! If anyone sees that the results are released, please post a comment here.
