FredEx Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Does anyone have any insight on the subject? I am currently 32 already.. I know kind of late in the game but I do know of at least one guy who has acquired a UPT age waiver that was my age. I am a TSgt in the AF reserves and also a C-5M flight engineer and a prior C-130H FE. I will have my degree 95-100% complete by December of this year, still have yet to take the AFOQT and TBAS but am beginning to study for it. Also have PPL with instrument rating and 200 hours flight time, currently working on a commercial single-engine rating. I'm not holding my breath but I am willing to put in the effort to submit a pilot package with the reserves/guard if its possible to get the waiver.

I’m an airline pilot with 2300 total time (ATP) and also in the AFR medical unit as a SRA. My main problem is I just turned 31 last month. I’ll be done with my degree this November and wanted to know if I have any chances and if so would be only heavys. What are the chances of fighters

What are the chances of fighters I’m older than you and got an ETP for age for a fighter unit. Can be done, but I got a lot of “no’s” before I found one that was ok with age waivers.
Rbranham607 Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 I have a similar question. I’m currently AD enlisted looking to commission to be a pilot. My issue is I’m currently 30 and don’t have a bachelors yet. I can try to fast track some random degree in hopes of not being too late but not sure if that’s the best idea or not. I want to stay active duty, how common is it to get a waiver approved? And does it depend on aircraft? I’d really like to fly helicopters but don’t really want to go the warrant officer route. At this point I’m just hoping I’m not too late in the game. Thanks for your help!

No idea about AD...I never had luck when I tried AD. And for AFRC board, you’ll need to be sponsored if a waiver is required, or at least that’s how it’s been.

Much appreciated! - Bric My package is currently at the AFRC board happening today and tomorrow with an ETP for TFCSD; I'll be at 6 years next month. For AFRC, the ETP requests have to go through the NAF and get endorsed by the NAF commander prior to being submitted to the AFRC board. I can say for certain, 4th AF is definitely approving them with little fuss. Granted... Its not fully approved until signed off by the commander of AFRC following board approval. Low risk there if sponsored. Active duty requires you to rack and stack all rated positions if you have a waiver or ETP which puts you in a tough spot; you can't apply for just pilot. If your picked up for something other than pilot you'd be forced to take it and wait a couple years to apply again. If not and you deny any rated position... you can never apply again. They did delay the board this year due to delays in ETPs and waivers but I believe several with them were not selected. Just about every guard posting I see says they aren't currently pursuing ETPs or waivers. The couple I spoke with had no idea what ETP or TFCSD were... Only age waiver. My advice would be to call units your interested in and ask what they're looking for and when they plan to hire (many don't make this info public). Make sure you ask if they are pursuing ETPs or waivers. Many units have folks that aren't familiar with the process and may just give you a no because of the they don't know. Do some research so you can assure them of the process and that they are being approved. Bottom line... if a unit likes you enough, the ETP should be no big deal. Hit me up if you have questions.
