I fly PMs so I can commute up and back without losing a day or spending money on a hotel. I get to work not mentally fatigued from driving 3 hours. I’m pretty ignorant on the Tesla self driving feature: How much time are you spending looking at the road vs not? Or is it just you’re watching the road 98% of the time but still on your phone and/or focusing on a podcast? I get driving can be tiring, especially considering traffic, road conditions, etc but how exactly does this feature make a difference? Appreciate the info!
Duck Posted December 5 Posted December 5 You can’t really be on your phone otherwise it yells at you and eventually kicks you off. I typically just sit my seat back to a comfortable position and have my hands in my lap but close to the wheel if I need to take over. Honestly though, it’s so good on the highways that I haven’t needed to. Sometimes it can mess up around town, especially with road closures, cones, etc. but I really only use it on my interstate drive to the airport. I get there rested and not mentally fatigued. The seats are super comfortable compared to the Mazda CX-5 I was driving and the ventilated seats are awesome. I would say the biggest questions are: can you make it round trip without charging or will you have access to a charger in the employee lot or wherever you decide to park, or are you okay with super charging a little bit to get home. It’s not for everyone but most of the airline guys at my guard base are using them as their commuters and they all love them too.Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app 1
Clayton Bigsby Posted December 8 Posted December 8 (edited) I live in the greater LA area, and one thing I’ll give the Tesla brand credit for is how much it has eaten into the Prius numbers on the road and put people in a vehicle that can get up and go if need be. Not everyone is doing it for the virtue-signaling experience, and lots of people in LA have lengthy commutes (fortunately I don’t) so with high gas taxes in CA people are looking for an edge and use EVs and hybrids for that. For so long, the Prius was dominant (still is to a degree) and not having driven one I don’t know what’s at play in the vehicle but holy fuck do they excel at being in the way, slowing/jamming traffic, can’t or don’t accelerate for shit etc. Tesla seems to have put those people in a much more capable vehicle. I still think anyone who buys a Cybertruck is a complete clown tho. Edited December 8 by Clayton Bigsby
