DFRESH Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 My original title was 2xT-38's but I was reading from a CUI source. Now I can share this link which shows 2xT-38: https://www.laughlin.af.mil/News/Article/2848974/news-release-nov-19/
di1630 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 There are no more form t/o and landings in 38’s correct?
HuskyPilot Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Form t/o is still a thing. No more form landings...low approach only.
Craftsman Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 (edited) 2x 38’s down at Laughlin. Hoping for good answers. https://www.kens5.com/article/news/local/texas/accident-involving-two-aircrafts-reported-at-laughlin-air-force-base/273-514dc72c-2d08-47da-b399-e7dab2c40ceb Edited November 19, 2021 by Craftsman
DuckHunter Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 So tired of this. This week sucks for the Red Bulls, and that was true prior to today. Prayers for all involved. But let’s keep cutting training and delaying acquisitions of new stuff…seems to be working. 2
Craftsman Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Laughlin just updated, 1 killed, 2 others injured. 🥃
08Dawg Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 (edited) Four years almost to the day since Paul Barbour’s crash…what the hell is with November… 🥃 Edited November 20, 2021 by 08Dawg Math
DirkDiggler Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 🥃 Rest easy brothers, not that there's ever a good time but doubly terrible with the holidays rapidly approaching.
Prosuper Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Praying. My wife has a nephew there going through UPT . No news is good news, praying.
Boomer6 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Almost 2 years to the day we lost two bros on a formation landing at END. I guess we have to lose ppl before we can cut syllabus items that are is irrelevant in the CAF. 2
black hills tj Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 November is a terrible month for Laughlin. Thoughts go out to all the Red Bulls. Hook 'em. A nickel...
StoleIt Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 Damn, this shit is happening too often. Him, him.

I would say that I'm of the opinion that your comment is misplaced, not well thought out, unprofessional and poorly timed. But we can discuss it in the future when we actually have some facts about what happened, rather than hashing out opinions and speculation before we even know the names of those involved... people we share the uniform with... in this tragic and unfortunate mishap. You’re right. I shouldn’t have posted it. Not an excuse, but I’m tired of losing good friends and students to accidents because the syllabus requires an event that’s no longer done in the CAF.
DEVIL Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 A friend of mine in white jets told me DLF is at 75% or more FAIPs…is this true?

The 87th was about ~65% FAIP when I went TDY there back in 2020 to help augment their manning for a few weeks…so it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s accurate, especially now with the airlines hiring again.
HerkDriver87 Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 Student pilot identified by Laughlin as the fatality in the mishap. Him, him.
Bigred Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 Name released https://www.foxnews.com/us/air-force-pilot-killed-in-runway-mishap-identified 🍺
M2 Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/43357/t-38-jets-in-recent-fatal-crash-were-executing-a-formation-approach-report "Two T-38 Talon jet trainers that were involved in a fatal accident last month at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas were performing a formation approach at the time, according to a report from the San Antonio Express-News newspaper. The Air Force has also now confirmed to The War Zone that Colonel Nathan Thompson, the second in command of the 47th Flying Training Wing, the main unit at Laughlin, was in one of the jets at the time. T-38 pilots assigned to Air Education and Training Command units, such as the 47th, have been banned from conducting formation landings, a similar maneuver, in virtually all situations in the wake of a different deadly mishap two years ago."
