To preface:

Normally, the pain due to Osgood-Schlatter disease goes away, at least for most of the population. I was a rare case where the pain persisted, and I resorted to having a bone excision done to remove the piece of bone that was causing the inflammation and pain. I've been pain since then and I was back to running and biking only a week after the surgery. I'm not sure if I technically even have Osgood-Schlatter disease anymore.

Anyways, I was hoping to apply for a pilot slot during the next application cycle in March of 2023, but looks like that's on hold for now. I just got back from my MEPS physical and was told I'd need a waiver for Osgood-Schlatter disease. I expected this, and my recruiter sent the request off. Unfortunately, I heard back yesterday that my request for a waiver was denied by the Surgeon General's office and that I was permanently disqualified from military service. I don't even know why they denied it.

My recruiter told me that I could submit more supporting documentation in the hopes that I could resubmit it and they would review it again, but I'm not sure what the office would like to see. I'm speaking with my orthopedist on Thursday to see what sort of documentation we'll be able to provide.

I'm hoping that someone may be able to provide some insight into this situation, or someone who has had an experience similar to mine can chime in. Thanks for any help.
