Busterb63 Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 (edited) Plan to claim ptsd on my va claim when i separate but trying to go guard. I know you can have a disability rating and be in the guard but how do you know which ratings would be disqualifying. None of them impact my ability to do my job. The guard unit is concerned with me being disqualified/needing a waiver planned to claim: ptsd knee lower back edit: mq-9 guy with no plans of flying outside of the air force Edited March 5, 2023 by Busterb63
brabus Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 What are you trying to do in the guard? MQ-9s? FWIW I know a guy at DAL who has a VA PTSD filing, probably not the only one.

brabus Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Last post of this thread has some thorough explanation, thought it is from 2014, so take it with a grain of salt.
Sua Sponte Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 If you claim PTSD, there’s a good chance you’re going to get rated 50-100% for it. Normally, I don’t think you can join the ANG or AFRC with a rating higher than 30%
Guardian Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Don’t file for it. I think you have a year post separation to file or file a letter of intent to file effectively giving you two years post separation to file for VA while you get your guard/reserve job.
Guardian Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 There are people serving in the guard and reserves with 50-100% disability.
