Does anyone have experience dealing with getting continuation after a DNP? Some NJP is in the picture from a few years ago that I thought I had recovered from, but that still played into a DNP for my first look at O-5. I’m assuming it’s not going to change next year. I’ve assumed I would get double passed over, but I was expecting a Promote at least. Does a DNP likely mean a DNP next year and how does that affect continuation? Thanks for any experiences.

The continuation board is separate from the promotion board, and I’m not sure if they actually see your PRF’s DP/P/DNP, but they will see the NJP in your records. I’ve never met anyone not offered continuation, but those who had NJPs were from their Lt days.

Don’t have personal experience with exactly what you are facing but historically if you are a Major with 15 years of service when the board meets you will get continued
I don’t believe in spreading false hope but if you are rated, have 3 years of honorable service from your NJP incident and it is not of an extreme nature I think you will be continued

I got passed over on AD and that pushed me to the ANG, it worked out for me and I retired as an O-5 and I think I had a greater career from joining the ANG. Not telling you what to do but relaying what happened to me.

Best of luck to you

Any 06 year group types on here that were passed over for O-5, and continued to 24? In the past, I knew a lot of guys who were initially continued to 20, and then offered 24 the following board. The few guys I know in my YG in the same boat haven’t been offered 24. I have no intention of staying a day past 20, but the option would be nice.

Why stay a day past 20 if you do take it and not go to the ARC? Only passing up seniority at the next really flying job and more money that you’ll be making after the AF. Even if they offered me continuation to 24, I wouldn’t stay a day past 20 and I’d walk at 19 years 9 months to start terminal leave and never look back.

05 yg here. I was offered continuation to 24 at the 2nd board, which was back in 2020. If I remember correctly, if you declined continuation then you received a DOS 6 months after the board approval. The offer was in the non-select letter.
No ADSC for continuation.
Guard/Reserve is a great option, but AD is still great if you can land a good “last assignment.”

I was just passed over for the 2nd time, and was offered continuation to 20 YOS. I don’t have NJP in my history, but I did have a rough last assignment with a referral OPR that I’m still in the process of challenging.  Long story short - I went through a nasty divorce when my ex left me for a coworker and decided to make false accusations to justify it.  I was eventually fully exonerated, but the damage to my records was tough.  My leadership did me no favors.  That referral OPR contained the allegations she made against me, before I had a chance to have due process.  Even though I was exonerated by due process, the damn OPR is still there and the board saw it.

As one last “fuck you” as I was leaving that assignment and chain of command, they gave me a DNP based on the same allegation, even though they knew it was disproven in court by that time.  When I reminded them I was cleared by due process, they fell back on the allegation still being on an OPR they wrote before I could defend myself.  Integrity first, right?

So I was passed over on that look. I got a “P” on this last look at my new unit.  My new leadership helped me write a letter to the board explaining the circumstances.  They also included verbiage on the PRF asking the board to look past the bullshit.

I don’t know if the continuation board saw the letter or the verbiage on the PRF. My understanding is they make offers of continuation if you are “fully qualified” to do your job.  I know another guy who was passed over and not offered continuation.  His issue is that his NJP messed up his security clearance and thus his ability to be “fully qualified”.

Hope this helps. BM me your email or phone number if you want to chat.  Good luck.
